Northeast of Montford itself, the Barony of Musgat features rolling, hilly savanna and a few small rivers that meander their way across the landscape to the north. For years it was little more than simple villes, subsistence farming, excellent hunting, and home to a few scattered plantations that dared eek out a meager profit with some cash crop. The famous Dame Paynifier Ahalin's demesne, a cocoa tree forest along a river, was cut from this land.

In 304, after having brazenly defied Montford and chosen the very wrong side in the civil war, Musgat's Baron and family were removed in disgrace. In their place, the Duke de Montford, and the Queen Richael granted the title to a loyal friend and particular legal aid in the revolution, and years after: the former Lord Justiciar, Garrid ab Versin. The Lithmorran nobleman set about modernizing and urbanizing the sleepy barony. Growing pains ensued, and proud Farin families rankled at the idea of being ruled by a foreign Lord and his strange ideas. To help soothe the natives, he adopted a heir from the war-forged Ahalin family, Garridin, the youngest son of Dame Paynifier's brother and sister-in-law. Yet, with some irony Garridin would prove his adoptive father's son, and continued on with peaceful interests of infrastructure and education instead of the honors of war with the infidel.

After about sixty years under the foot of the de Versins, Musgat is orderly, peaceful and productive. The Order's public schools there are among the best in the Duchy. The savanna is being tamed: irrigated and farmed. Though not known for any fame in leading an army, Musgat's peaceful, studious ruling family has figured out how to feed one. The de Versins; however, have benefited little for their efforts. Due to either honest virtue, or simple political necessity to keep the natives happy, most all their tithes and resources have gone into the continuous building and public projects that improve this Barony. Few are willing to give the family credit where it is due; they are regarded as de Montford's flunkies and legal hacks. After all, the excess food the Barony now produces is shipped and sold to the capital and the House de Montford's interests. Still, most in Musgat begrudgingly admit that life there is vastly improved for them, and quietly hope the new, young Baron, Garrith, continues his strange family's traditions.
