The Barony of Cort has long been the seat of House de Winter; a House not unfamiliar with tragedy of the unsavory variety.
In Octobris of Sun Cycle 356, then-Baron of Cort Alaine de Winter perished under suspicious circumstances, with the Physicians who tended his bedside near certain that the cause was poison. His younger brother, Kaerrick de Winter, was permitted to inherit only after he could be exonerated for the murder of his brother. Many remained unconvinced of Kaerrick's innocence even after he claimed his seat on the Baronial throne.
Baron Kaerrick de Winter wedded a Lithmorran woman, Katarina, and with her had a daughter who remains the heir to Cort. Katarina surpassed Kaerrick in years, and after his death wedded Lord Tomas ab Jinosa, the Count of Vees, while serving as the Dowager Baroness to Cort.
On Maius the 22nd of 360 the Dowager Baroness was caught in the middle of a skirmish between Daravi and Lithmorran forces on the outskirts of Cort. She was killed, along with a smattering of soldiers. Since coming of age, Kaerrick and Katarina's daughter now sits the Baronial seat of Cort.
