Sharing the Western Vale with the Marches Brayston, Dastur, and Gailiech, the land is rocky and windswept, with great lengths of snow and rain that circle from the oceans inland to break upon the Tarn Mountains at Avonna's western border. With a mostly humid continental climate, its winters are brutal, cold, and long, while its summers are hot, humid, and short. Rain is common through all seasons save winter, when the March is instead buffeted by heavy snowfall. The lands become ripe for vineyards during the summer, and some part of Avonna's wealth can be attributed to its fine wines.

The majority of the March's wealth comes from its ample quarries and mines, which dot the Tarn Mountains like so many sores, bleeding natural resources. The central hub of mining efforts, once located in Quarrytown, has moved in recent years, following a series of collapses in its over-dug tunnels. Today, the hamlet of Yone holds the arguable honour of the March's core mining efforts, comprised of sheep-herders who travel the Tarn foothills and the rougher miners upon whose shoulders the wealth of Avonna rests. Nearly all of the mining investments along the Tarn Mountains have a garrison of soldiers on standby, in case of Hillman raids.

At the approximate center of the Avonna March lies the stronghold city of Harthwaite, a walled community that sprang to life around the heavily fortified Harthwaite Castle. The city is the most populated area in the sparsely populated March, with the majority of the area's trade tending to pass through Harthwaite at one point or another before being sent through Endridge and to the capitol. Known as the ancestral home of House Azadar, the ownership of Harthwaite Castle has changed only once since Varian ab Aldair in year 23, when in the year 349 it was transferred to House Beauparlant. The transfer was short-lived, as the Harmon Plague wiped out the young House and made room for an Azadar once more.

The Avonna lands, while wide and beautifully rustic, are mostly miserable with lengthy seasons of rain, humid heat, and incredibly harsh winters. What wealth is made from vineyards and mining is typically spent paying the salaries of border garrisons and Endridge trading tariffs.

House Azadar's colors are black and gold, its sigil a rampant dragon rearing as though to strike. The coat of arms is a shield divided into four quadrants checkered black and gold, a rampant dragon of the opposing color in each of the sections, all facing outward.
