The March of Bastion was created in 364 upon the withdrawal from Edessa. Formerly Sir Ambris de Corteland II, a member of the noble Corteland family was granted the domain and became Marquis Ambris de Bastion I in acknowledgment of his repeated distinctions.
A desert area that sits up against the mountains, it guards an important pass that leads to the territories belonging to the Daravi Sultanate, and therein lies the value of the March of Bastion.
Having little to no resources itself, what Bastion is known for is a plethora of castles and fortifications, along with the ferocity of its soldiers. Its citizens pride themselves on their warrior reputation, so much so that it's considered a bit of a scandal for a child to pick any other occupation besides priest, soldier, or knight. Day-to-day tasks are performed by those not native to Bastion, and there is a sizable slave population taking care of menial labours. Slaves tend to be treated quite well in Bastion, however, as a few revolting slaves could weaken the borders to Daravi raiders in the blink of an eye.
The people of Bastion consistently defend against Daravi raids, and train its soldiers by raiding back into Daravi territories, coming back with items and slaves to sell to upkeep its fortifications. This is a chief export of the desert March of Bastion, actually. That is not to say Bastion is without great beauty. The city of Bastion, home of the de Bastion family, is known for an large oasis and incredibly extravagant fountains. It also houses the largest cathedral there is to Saint Paynifier, which is consistent with the warrior spirit of Bastion's people and their view of Dav as a Warrior-Prophet.
