Cameron de Montford II has been duke in Farin since the early days of King Tobin ab Samael. He was appointed by the Council of Three to replace Paloma de Preston, who was removed as Duchess for failure to meet the expectations set for her when her husband, Duke Jaafs de Preston, was executed as a traitor.

Cameron's father was the first cousin of Duke Simon de Montford III, the Duke of Farin before Jaafs de Preston and a member of the long de Montford line. Though Cameron and his father enjoyed the popularity with the Farin people of the Montford line, they had a falling out with Simon, leading to neither being considered as the heir to the duchy, and de Preston inherited instead. Before his reign, Cameron was well respected amongst the Farin nobility and was a successful commander in the assault on Daravi that claimed Edessa. Unsurprisingly, he was also one of the strongest voices against first Jaafs and then Paloma's ducal reign.
