Civil War

At the death of King Iain II in 304, dispute as to the proper heir of the throne arose across the kingdom. Prince Pieter was named the heir by the King in his last days, with Archbishop Narim ab Dekarti as his regent. Standing in opposition, a force called the Loyalists fought for Princess Richael to become the immediate and rightful wearer of the crown.

Battle ensued. The two forces, named the Regency and the Loyalists, fought one another, rallying all the men and kingdoms they could. The Kingdom of Lithmore became divided, with allegiances changing nearly daily. Treason, death and famine shook the lands and a mystical plague put the children into hospitals with high fatality rates.

From the kingdom of Farin, Richael was named Queen of all the kingdoms, with her first act being to reinstate the Decree of Sodality. It was not long later that King Pieter took ill, and a group of assassins ambushed the castle and took the life of the Regent. Pieter formally abdicated in signed documents, and Richael became, officially, the Queen of Lithmore and the Five Duchies.

The war finally came to conclusion, but not without impact. The first female to sit the throne ruled Lithmore, and populations were decimated and families destroyed. "Such are the results of war and treason" are the famous words of Loyalist Commander Telirr Fletcher. Many months following were spent reviving the torn kingdom and rebuilding alliances, but some were beyond repair. Brothers fought against brothers, and one house became two. But by the end of the year 305, a sense of completion had finally been obtained, and the lands were allowed to heal. A new holiday, the Calm, was declared on the wedding day of the Queen.
