Magic

From The Inquisition Legacy

There is no one individual that represents the ultimate evil in the Lithmorran religion. Instead, taint is the sole enemy. In the eyes of both members of the Holy Order and layfolk alike, the Order exists to protect the people from the foul taint of sin, of which magic is the darkest manifestation. The Lord of the Springs has charged priests and inquisitors with this holy duty to be the saviors of mankind.

Individuals that practice the taint of magic have the capacity to draw on the power of demons to affect the world. It is believed that magic progresses like a disease in tainted individuals. Any use of the taint will inevitably lead to further corruption, eventually ending in evil and madness. When the taint has progressed far enough that a person is able to use their wicked powers, only fire can cleanse the soul and make it acceptable to the Lord of the Springs. At this stage, the fiery death is a blessing and a mercy, for those who die uncleansed by fire will instead be condemned to join their demonic masters in eternal torment.

The Order has strong evidence that magic is linked to the evil of demons, beginning with ritualistic murder to attain the powers of magic and continuing all the way to broken but undeniably real accounts of demon summonings to grant a mage more power. Its effects on the world have been shown to be negative time and time again, as mages who have progressed to the furthest points of insanity have repeatedly killed and tormented innocents; it is not hard to find reasons to subscribe to the Davite worldview and oppose magery in all its forms.
