Picked out on a map as one of the western Marches, Avonna shares its borders with three other Marches (Brayston, Dastur, and Gailiech), the barony of Perche, and the county of Endridge. The land is rocky and windswept, with great lengths of snow and rain that circle from the oceans and inland to break upon the Tarn Mountains at Avonna's western border. With a mostly humid continental climate, the lands become ripe for vineyards during the summer, and indeed most of Avonna's wealth is attributed to their fine grape wines.

The other half of the land's wealth comes from its ample granite quarries and iron mines, which dot the Tarn Mountains like so many sores, bleeding natural resources. The main hub of mining efforts in the area is the unoriginally named Quarrytown. Thought to be one of the dullest places in the whole Five Duchies, Quarrytown is the home of miners, a few sheep-herders who travel the Tarn foothills, and cheap wenches with even cheaper ale. Nearly all of the mining investments along the Tarn Mountains have a garrison of soldiers on standby, in case of Hillman raids.

At the approximate center of the Avonna March is the stronghold city of Avonna, a walled community that sprang to life around the heavily fortified Avonna Keep. The city is the most populated area in the sparsely populated March. Most of the area's trade passing through Avonna City at one point or another before being sent through Endridge and to the capitol. Known as the ancestral home of House Azadar, the ownership of Avonna Keep has only changed once since Varian ab Aldair in year 23, when in the year 349 it was transferred to House Beauparlant. The transfer was short lived though as the Harmon Plague wiped out the young House, leaving the seat for an Azadar buttocks once more.

The Avonna lands, while wide and beautifully rustic, are mostly miserable with lengthy seasons of rain, humid heat, and harsh winters. What wealth is made from vineyards and mining will soon be spent paying the salaries of border garrisons and Endridge trading tariffs.
