As per our discussion at the OOC Chat, staff have decided to give a +1 RPxp Level bonus to players who successfully emote within 5 minutes of the last emote in a room. This is intended as a reward to players who make an effort to keep up the flow of RP.

Is it possible we could maybe have this bumped to 10 minutes? That way it rewards folks for remaining engaged in a scene but gives them time to ensure they have a bit more thought put into their emotes?

I have to agree. The intention is to keep players engaged and not wandering away from the game keeping people waiting. If you are paying attention you should be able to respond in under 10 minutes but 5 isn't possible without enforcing a short emote style.

Please, no. Five minutes is fine. If you make it in that time, great. If you don't, there's no penalty. Ten minutes is what, 5-6 emotes in an hour? That's really not encouraging faster times with user error (folks missing occasionally).

+1. 5 minutes is way too short; 10 minutes gives one ample time to read the other emotes and formulate a decently thought-out response.

Could discussion of the change be moved to a new topic?

Edit: Thanks!

Thought I'm pondering: I'm fairly sure this is the same bonus folks get for RPing with an Orderite, Noble, Freeman, yada yada. You aren't penalized for not RPing with an Orderite, you just aren't getting the RP With Orderite bonus. Same deal with this; no penalty, just not getting one of a bunch of possible bonuses for RPXP gain.

I can understand the feeling that they're missing out on exp by taking longer to write a longer pose, but I personally think 5 minutes is a good number.

Say there's 4 people in a scene: if everyone takes up to 10 minutes, it could be half an hour between poses for one person. That's cut down to up to 15 minutes by encouraging to emote within 5 minutes. And it also falls in line with the combat code, which is also based on 5 minute turns.

And as Niamh says, it's just encouragement, and it's not even as big of one as say, writing a cnote everyday. I could make a lot more rpxp by writing up a daily cnote, but it doesn't bother me enough to actually do it. Those who prefer writing longer emotes aren't losing out on anything, they just aren't earning the full potential.

I stand by my feelings on this.

Players have proven that they'll do everything they can to maximize the amount of RPXP they gain, which means those of us who don't like a rapid posing style end up pressured to keep up.
