When [[the Declarations]] were voiced by King [[Dav]], particularly the Law of
Giving, many Lords and wealthy [[Merchants Guild|merchants]] were angered. They could not stay
and fight, for their retinues were not strong enough to counter the Royal
Guard. If they wanted to keep their gold and wealth, they had to flee, and
many of them did. When Dav was leading the population west towards the
spring, where all [[Lithmorran]]s were to drink, the merchants and lords were
sailing down the [[River Bren|Bren]]. They cleaned out their warehouses and set the city
afire, taking all the ships they could, and burning the rest. This great
exodus of wealth ended in the [[Kirulean Sea]] at the merchant city of Vavard
that lies at the tip of the Flairkin Peninsula.

The defectors banded together and started a new nation, the Merchant Kindgom
of Vavard, a nation devoid of Davites and the Declarations. The Grand
Prince of Vavard would become the leader elected by the council. The
council soon divided into two different councils. One, the Council of
Merchants, consisted of the three wealthiest merchants, each member gaining
the title Merchant Prince. The Council of Lords was the other; it consisted
of the former Lithmorran Lords, now named the Lord Councilors. The fleet of
merchant vessels were hastily converted into functioning navy and sent back
to the mouth of the Bren, on reports of a Davite force. The fleet reached
the Bren and indeed found an army of Davites camped at [[Yarsith]]. They sailed
away again, moved up the coast and put many of their men aground. The fleet
sailed back down to Yarsith and made way to go up the Bren, leading the
[[The holy order of king dav|Davites]] to believe an attack on Lithmore. The [[Vavardi]] army took them by
surprise from the north and won a decisive victory. The Davites were
routed, and Yarsith, the only Davite City on the Kirulean Sea, was
destroyed. Vavard would not be bothered again for many years, as the
Davites turned their attention to Tubor and Farin.

While Lithmore was engaged in subjugating the nations of Tubor and Farin,
Vavard was prospering as it traded with its neighbors. The population of
Vavard swelled with people fleeing Farin and Tubor. Cities sprang up along
southern coast of the Kirulean Sea and a large stronghold was built at
[[Nimrock]].

The [[Vavardi]] have, over time become known as the 'rivermen' due to their
close association with the waters of the [[River Bren|Bren]] river and the [[Kirulean Sea]].
