New page

Popular culture holds the birth of twins as an ill omen. Where there is
already suspicions of [[magic|magery]], it is widely agreed that the birth of twins
is considered further proof. Beyond that, the stories vary from village to
village with some taking a lighter view to others.

Some of the oldest traditions mark one of the children as a mage. Others
see it as a sign of great evil to come without further involvement of the
children. Still others claim the twins will themselves draw the evil if
they are allowed to live.

In recent decades, however, several prominent twins born among the nobility
have made the issue a confused one. Some claim that the notion is old and
outdated, believed only by the poor and those in backwater locales, while
others say that people fear for the omens but are afraid to risk their
lives in speaking against the children of some of the most influential
persons in the kingdom. In any case, twins of the noble and wealthy are
generally allowed to continue unmolested without more than whispers of the
omen. Those whispers do happen, however, and some point to the early death
of [[Jaren of Vandago|King Jaren]], born to the one of the Vandagan duke's triplets, as
evidence, while others suggest that training accidents might befall those
born as twins.
