Danijel, a notorious gambler and rogue during the time of the
[[Consolidation Timeline|Consolidation]], is one of the few confirmed historical members of the [[Sable Masque]]. He had made an attempt at honest living more than once but never
seemed to quite make it stick. Living a double life, Danijel was rumored
to have infiltrated the newly formed network of the Brotherhood of Common
Goods, murdering heretics in their sleep and turning over a tidy profit of
ill-gotten blood money.

History's general consensus is that Danijel was a very bad man, until one
cold winter's day in the year 132, when he and his compatriots saved
[[Lithmore]] from the mercies of the sorceress, [[The Seven|Aquiel]].

History claims Danijel gave up his secret double life to play bait to
Aquiel, whom he had met during his nefarious dealings. He lured her into
her tower, and distracted the witch while other members of the Masque
bricked up the exits, then lit it afire with Danijel and Aquiel still
inside. They say the great pyre burned for three days, with flames crimson
as blood and black as ice. A scrap of burned leather, black with soot, was
found in the heart of the tower's ashes, presumably the mask that Aquiel
herself wore.

For his sacrifice, Danijel was posthumously cleared of his crimes and named
a saint by King Dav, citing his selfless sacrifice of his own life to spare
Lithmore Aquiel's rage.
