New page

Born to a fine gentry family in Vandago city, Jaccus is said to have
revelled in a life of decadence and luxury until, at the age of seventeen,
his parents enrolled him under the tutelage of the renowned blind poet,
Ambrosia op Induras. At her feet, he learned the great classical works,
and once his apprenticeship to her was complete, Jaccus had developed a
most unusual talent and ear for music and rhyme. He was soon brought to
the attention of the prominent Troubadours of the day, with his innovative
take on those classics, refreshing them for the ears of a modern audience.
Before long, he was the beloved son of his guild and much of Lithmore, his
name on the lips of much of the nobility and upper classes.

When the former Poet Laudate, his tutor Ambrosia, stepped down from the
position in the year 295, there were very few dissenters in selecting what
seemed her natural successor in Jaccus, to take her place. Jaccus is not
only a talented musician however, and is deemed to have few peers at the
art of statecraft.

Of curious note, Jaccus has long had the support and sponsorship of the
wife of the late King Bran, which has continued since she became the
dowager. While she has largely kept herself apart from the world at large,
she continues to rely on the council, and music of the Poet Laudate.
However, he does have one rather major detractor at court, in the shape of
the Marquis of the Blaton Heaths, who has had a constant rivalry with him,
ever since both were young men, and both sought the heart of a young maid.
Neither remembers the woman, but the two are always at one another's
throat- sensible thought goes out of the window when the other is present.

Jaccus is the patriarch of his family, and has been since the death of his
brother in 293. The Svanfjeld family makes their home in the northern
reaches of the Lithmorran Duchy, and own some of the finest apple orchards
in the kingdom.

On Rain 1st, 297 Jaccus op Svanfjeld was fired from the position of King
Iain's Royal Bard after a great todo between the Dowager and her son. The
incident appears to have some connection with Jaccus' chosen Poet Knight,
Sethrinel, but no one is quite certain what.

On Rain, 30th, 297 Jaccus regained his position as the Royal Bard to the
Royal family. It is said that matters came to a head over the Poet Knight,
Sethrinel dul Terrais op Rivali. The Poet Knight was reassigned, they say,
in return for the Poet Laudate's position at court.

In the Time of Heat 16, SC 298, Jaccus was married to the Poet Knight,
Soraya op Alcine by Marris Karenth during his brief tenure as the Grand
Inquisitor just prior to his sudden death. It was a matter of some
controversy, as the traditional Lithmorran daisy chain fell apart as it was
being placed on the newly wed couple.

Shortly after Iolaide le Fontaine's execution for Treason, Jaccus left
Lithmore and his position as Poet Laudate.
