New page

Fiercely independent, the Hillmen barely have a concept of "family" as
it is known in the rest of the kingdom. Children tend to leave the home as
early as twelve years old and maintain the same relationships with their
siblings that they do other members of the clan. This results in extremely
high birth rates that vary wildly from region to region (as low as six, or
as high as thirteen). Despite this, Hillmen tend to maintain strong bonds
as a clan unit, even as they go long periods without interacting - they are
not known to grow apart with time and distance as other people do.

Marriages begin earlier for Hillmen than they do in more
Lithmorran-influenced societies; a Hillman is considered an adult and can
marry as soon as they leave their parents' dwelling. In Davite
communities, simple ceremonies and celebrations take place, but further
out, a "marriage" can be as simple as a decision to live together. Despite
the Lithmorran stigma of divorce, Hillmen tend to see no point in remaining
in a marriage if either party does not want to. Children born to unwedded
couples are not looked down upon (though they are rare), but parents are
always beholden to ensure the upbringing of their children through to
self-sufficiency. Hillmen are unbendingly loyal to their blood, and they
make fiercely loyal partners.
