OOC Chat Item:

Karrin states, "OOC Chat Rules:

- Approach each topic with the mindset that each person is doing the best they can with the
knowledge they have, staff and player alike.
- Please avoid topics around current events. Nothing should be revealed in an OOC meeting that
others would prefer to find out in game ICly.
- This is not the correct forum for criticism of a specific player or a topic centered around one
player. If there are concerns about a specific player, please address that with staff privately.
- This is not the correct forum for bringing up policy violations. If there are instances of
perceived policy violations, please address that with staff privately."

Karrin asks, "How has RP been this week?"

Meiari says, "Awesome"
Highroller trails off, "Comin'in hot! Politics ahoy, it was a lotta fun... also..."
Cleo trails off, "Extremely emotional and very, very stressful. Oof... "
Highroller throttles soulless "WHY YOU LITTLE"
WeedEater exclaims, "I was on vacation all week, I apparently missed all kinds of things!"
Soulless states, "Eventful.."
Soulless claims, "Lol."
Kalana asks, "Good good, I had some nice scenes, and council was this week, wasn't it? Whew"
Sororitas trails off, "RP was... eventful"
cat says, "Yes it was"
KindledFlames trails off, "RP has been... a thing lol"
LadyTenebrae says, "Really, really super involved. Lots of stuff happening this week"
Karrin states, "There has certainly been a lot going on this week."
Musketeer says, "I have done my absolute best to avoid anything too taxing RP wise, but what I've
been in has been.. Eventful."
Cleo states, "I would like to request a beach vacation for the whole server."
LadyTenebrae claims, "I have five recommendations I still need to make"
Highroller claims, "I came back from a full weekend of sleeping only 8 hours total straight into the
Council meeting. It was a fun trip lmao."
Caelum claims, "'Eventful' seems to be the word of the week"
Sororitas declares, "Aye Charali yellow!!!!!!!!!!"
WeedEater declaims, "I was on a super relaxing vacation in Victoria and missed a ton of drama by the
looks of it! Alas!"
Kalessin says, "My RP was kind of sad, if that's what we're on."
Karrin says to Caelum, "She has now claimed you."

Karrin wonders, "There has certainly been a lot going on, definitely. Are there any player topics?"
Sparkles claims, "I have a topic."
Highroller claims, "A musing I had, not sure if I can word it like I like it."
Karrin nods at Sparkles.
Karrin queries to Highroller, "I can put you after sparkles, and you can think out the wording in
while staff give updates and we do her topic?"
Highroller nods at Karrin.
Highroller pontificates, "That works!"

Staff Updates

Karrin states, "Alright, staff updates. For players with topics, please pre-type."
Karrin claims to Temi, "I'll let you go first."
Temi claims, "Not a whole lot on me this week. I have at least one plot I owe a response to, but
other than that, just some simple requests and things"
[Action: Caelum is being very stickish here. ]
Temi nods at Karrin.
Karrin says, "Me, personally, I've not done a lot of heavy lifting. I've been guiding Caelum as he
tries things out, and that's been fun."
Karrin says to Dorothy, "Your turn."
Dorothy says, "Uh, I'll admit I've forgotten what I've done this week, if anything productive,
outside of musing lore stuff with the Elder Staff. Did a tour this morning if that counts, but
mostly been balancing dishes on sticks irl."
Karrin says to Caelum, "Let them know what you've been doing."
Caelum states, "I haven't been doing much except for learning how to do my job better. The staff
here have been great teachers and very patient putting up with my questions. My next step is
becoming more familiar with the grid so I can start working on more than puppeting random NPCs."
Karrin says, "Which is to say, Caelum has been puppeting random NPCs. I'm sure a few of you have run
into him."

Highroller claims, "I saw I think two random puppets, it was fun <3 "
Musketeer says, "I ran into Caelum driving Lysander, it was great, AND gave me an idea for an
upcoming mile"
KindledFlames says, "I enjoyed having someone come play with the chess board last night."
LadyTenebrae claims, "I saw puppeting but no Caelum online, so maybe it was Harrow?"

Karrin exclaims, "Harrow is next!"
Karrin says to Harrow, "Your go."
Karrin states, "There's quite a few of us to get through now."
Harrow claims, "I haven't done any puppeting this week, frankly haven't done a -ton- this week. I've
also had to juggle a lot of stuff IRL, but once this month is up I'm pretty much free to torment you
guys a lot for a while. I do have two scenes/events coming up that I'll be helping with though."
Karrin wonders to Harrow, "Didn't you do a header plot scene?"
Harrow queries, "I don't think that was -this- week, unless I'm misremembering?"
Karrin states, "Huh, I thought it was."
Karrin wonders, "Anyway. I hope you all noticed the process change I put on the announcement board.
Any questions about that?"

[ #17 ] Announce Board
A note has been posted by: Karrin
From room : 97
In subject of: *STICKY* New Process - Upon Liquidation or Death
Date : Sat May 16 19:07:02 2026
Expires : Thu Feb 8 18:22:16 2029
To : all
_________________________________________________________________________
Greetings players,

The staff, as a whole, have decided on a process change.

If your character has more than 500 RP hours upon liquidation or death, and
you liquidate or die in good standing (i.e. it's not autoliquidate, and/or
staff having to puppet someone for death who has committed RP avoidance), we
will add 5 rec levels for each additional 100 hours, up to the usual maximum
of 100.

We do not want to make recommends less valuable (please don't stop those,
they are genuinely the best for those who have their accounts for a long
time), but we also want to reward those who have stuck around perhaps despite
not getting recommends or accolades that others have. Because not every
character type is one that draws other people's appreciation and admiration.
But, that does not make them any less valuable to the gameworld. If they
have that many RP hours, I guarantee they have stirred up RP somewhere.

I'll be adding this to the validation room, and for any future liquidations,
the number of RP hours will be checked.

Cheers,

Karrin

Bigman says, "Only: hear hear"
Sororitas shakes her head.
Musketeer says, "Good change."
LadyTenebrae shakes her head
Meiari questions, "That's calculated at the time/validation of death right? we won't see it before
then?"
Temi nods at Meiari.
Karrin states to Meiari, "Correct. In the meantime, recommends will fill it in."
Meiari declares, "Cool!"
Temi states, "No guarantees it won't be in real time eventually, but at validation takes no extra
coding"
Meiari nods.
Karrin claims, "It's just... if someone's put in a lot, and they haven't gotten the recommends to
fill that in their score (for whatever reason), I'm more inclined to fill it in. We have people who
have thousands and thousands of RP horus."
Temi says, "And often they will have done meaningful things on grid, just not always things that get
recognized by others"
Karrin nods in agreement with Temi.
Highroller states, "I like the fact that it's after death, a little validation cookie as you're
working through a dead PC."

Player Topics

Karrin says, "Alright, first topic."
Karrin states to Sparkles, "You're up."
Sparkles claims, "So, I have been super excited in recent times how we have been having an influx
and/or return of a lot of folks, and thus we have a lot more cyans around than normal. However,
having witnessed some things during that time, there's some things that as a collective community I
noticed we've been getting used to that might need a bit of thought. One is getting a bit heavy on
OOC communication. "
Sparkles claims, "In the sense as an example: osays at times that likely could have been a gentle
correction IC. Handling things in channels but without IC follow up."
Karrin nods.
Karrin claims, "I haven't seen it, but I don't doubt it. Let's genuinely be conscious that our new
players might ACTUALLY be new and not people just making a new character. There's been a lot."
Temi nods in agreement.
Karrin claims, "At the same time, there's a delicate line between a correction that is based off of
OOC lack of knowledge - perhaps someone wouldn't have done it if they'd known they would be
corrected. And someone who knows their character is doing wrong. Warns can be gently used when
absolutely necessary - but we shouldn't be correcting cyans via osay or tell. That feels very
'telling me what to do or how to act', which is very not-good as far as policy goes."
Karrin claims, "If you need help on how to gently use the warn system, I can help. I've seen some
beautifully written ones lately that are very non-confrontational and just letting someone know
their actions could bring trouble."
Sororitas nods along silently.
Highroller claims, "I have seen an uptick in osays in the past say, few months or so. I think the
most change I'd offer is move it to visnet or ooc or tells if it's more than a few lines. "
HIEROPHANT claims, "Speaking from perhaps the most hard-to-express subsection of the game - magic,
to be clear - it is best to at least attempt some kind of explanation IC, first, and then if
necessary clarify the OOC aspects of what you're explaining - if you're teaching about how to do one
of the many minigames, for example, explain what the minigame you're teaching represents IC, then
follow up with details about command syntax. Same goes for referring to specific mechanics,
helpfiles, and so on."
Karrin states, "If it's excessive, osays can be turned off."
Karrin nods in agreement with HIEROPHANT.
Sororitas nods in agreement with Hierophant as well.
HIEROPHANT states to Karrin, "I'm of the frank opinion that if at any point you feel osays are bad
enough in a scene to turn them off, do so, but also contact staff."

Sparkles says, "The second part is, and this might be a bit more tricky."
Sparkles says, "My other concern, as part of it gently is. Folks having a sort of ... speed up time
line with getting flirty with cyans is the best way I think I can put it."
Karrin states to Sparkles, "I've been watching it very closely."
Karrin claims, "Huge yes to remember that cyans are off limits. And there is more than one person
who has been warned about this behavior. Let them get themselves established in the game and as a
character before trying to hole them away in a bedroom, please."
HIEROPHANT claims, "And, yes, ironically much like my own whois mentions with regards to magic:
Romantic involvement is dangerous on TI:L, and new players should be reminded of such when engaging
them in that; in the same way you'd warn them before inviting them to do crimes or magic."
Karrin says, "If you want to be a promiscuous new character, get all you need done in chargen, and
then purchase established. But for new-new players, the risks of doing the schmexy things is high,
and they shouldn't be pulled into it until they actually understand the theme and what those risks
are."
Karrin nods in agreement with HIEROPHANT.
HIEROPHANT declares to Karrin, "I'll also point out, even if you aren't running the coded commands
or finding time to need to read help MUDSEX, the dating world is fraught with risk in and of
itself!"
Karrin claims, "I promise I'm not trying to cock-block anyone. I'm just wanting people to fully
understand the risks they are taking before partaking in the sexy times."
HIEROPHANT says, "People get jealous! Love triangles! Murders happen over it! It's part of the sauce
here."
Karrin chuckles.
Karrin claims to HIEROPHANT, "True. People have killed over such things."
Cleo says, "People have killed over -less-."
Karrin nods in agreement with Cleo.
Sparkles says, "Social intrigue is part of the game, but hoping folks aren't aware of the
consequences OOC to something is not great honestly."
HIEROPHANT says, "People have killed over just the public perception of it."
Sparkles claims, "So I'm glad we kind of went over it."
HIEROPHANT nods.
Karrin nods in agreement with Sparkles.
Meiari says, "It's true. Sin is heavily monitored in our hyper-religious world. And slights are
monitored even heavier by our social-intrigue individuals :D"
Highroller says, "I think with any sort of big abyss you lead cyans to, the moment you're at the
point where they jump the rabbit hole, a warn is not unkind, and if they then want to back out, let
them with grace. "
Temi says, "It does make for fun drama, but got to not caught be surprise when it's a little too
dramatic"
Karrin states to Highroller, "Exactly."
Karrin says, "I think the cyan post I made several months ago has the key, and the key phrase is one
Temi said. So perfectly."
KindledFlames claims, "Things can escalate fast especially when it comes to toying with things that
are matters for the Church"
Karrin states, "We want cyans. We want drama. We want cyans to have the opportunity to experience
drama, but they should also be given the opportunity to escape from it if it wasn't what they
intended."
Highroller states, "I for one enjoy cyans responding with osay COME AT ME BRUH when I send a warn :P"

Karrin queries to Highroller, "Ready?"
Highroller pontificates, "Yes! "
Highroller wonders, "So, -recent events- got me thinking: There is sometimes an incentive to not
associate with someone due to guiltiness by association. But that creates a moment where someone in
jail might get all lonely, while they are generating a lot of RP on grid. Might we consider being
jailed for normal (I.e. not just being a little shit or something) roleplay reasons to give a small
bump in rec level like playtime hours does, because staying online is generating a lot of RP for
others? "
KindledFlames says, "So it's mandatory for people who can to give jailbirds rp time. There is a jail
channel and all so people can schedule scenes with those who can get in."
Karrin states to Highroller, "I think it might seem that way, but I don't think those in jail have
been any kind of neglected the several times they've been in there. People have literally been
tripping over themselves to get in and RP with them."
Karrin claims, "But that said, if their time in jail leads to something pariticularly spicy, like
execution or pyring, they already get a bump in rec level."
Highroller states, "Cool, then I said nothing :) "
Sororitas claims, "Folks can send recommends to jailed folks for generating a lot of RP by their
jailing I think? Also there is a lot of policy around ensuring jailed players get RP so there is
that and if you are ever jailed and bored please use the jail chat. Most of us in it want to make
jail suck for the character but not the player."
Karrin says, "They absolutely can."
Meiari claims, "It is also possible for you to ask for help ICly to go visit people. Physicians,
Troubs, Knights - they all have passes and can supervise visits. So if you want to check in with a
friend or something you totally can seek ways to do so."
Karrin states, "There are a lot of guilds who can go in there and RP with jailed peeps. I know in
the past it wasn't well enforced, but since I've been staff, every time someone is jailed, they have
their pick of people to RP with. Sometimes people are in other scenes and can't, but with so many
guilds involved, I've rarely seen anyone alone-alone in there."
Karrin nods in agreement with Meiari.
Karrin muses, "Alright, any other topics before I send you back to grid to cause more chaos?"
Meiari shakes head.
Karrin exclaims, "I'll take the silence as a 'no'. You all have a wonderful day!"
People are pushed back to grid

Additional Belated Topic

(visnet) Player Saelene: Oh merp! I had a topic, but I stepped away from the desk for two minutes.
Sad!
(visnet) Staff Karrin: If it's visnet safe, we can just discuss it here quickly.
(visnet) Player Saelene: This could be a straight up no, but I thought I'd bring it up anyways. So
if you start off as any other char that isn't Lithmorran, you have your own native language mastered
at 61, as it should be. And you have the opportunity to raise Lithmorran to 61, without the usual 36
block, and it even goes into a learn block hole. But this puts lithmorrans at a slight disadvantage.
In that we start with lithmorran at 61, but if we want to learn another language, we have to put it
in a learn slot, and then work our way up it from 36 onwards, if we purchase it up to 36. Would it
be possible, given everyone who aren't Lithmorrans start out with a free language, and can raise
Lithmorran all the way up to 61 without taking up a learn slot, that people who are Lithmorran if
they so choose to, can pick one language to purchase up to 61 and not take up a learn slot?
(visnet) Aide Bishaar: Lithmorrans gain a bunch of social- and influence-related benefits that,
frankly, far exceed what's lost out on there.
(visnet) Player Mathieu: I feel that then takes away from playing a non-Lithmorran, personally.
(visnet) Aide Theodora: There are coded and social benefits from being Lithmorran, so I'd argue
that's one of the trade offs.
(visnet) Aide Valora: I will offer that in exchange Lithmorran get bonus IP, Prestige, and
Guildleader metrics so Lithmorrans do get a solid bonus in exchange.
(visnet) Staff Karrin: No. The races are freely chosen and not blocked by anything - not xp or
required hours. Each race has its perks, and Lithmorran being able to do that on non-Lithmorran's is
because it is the King's tongue.
(visnet) Player Saelene: OH i didn't realize they got other bonuses. Okay never mind!
(visnet) Player Johannes: Wait, Lithmorrans get coded bonuses?
(visnet) Player Saelene: Yeah I didn't think they did.
(visnet) Aide Bishaar: Yep. Most have to do with social standing and influence.
