On the morning of Februaris 24th, a lone rider was seen heading toward the
Keep. The hooded person was immediately halted and inspected. Very soon
after, the guards that inspected the man were seen saluting and bowing to the
man and then moving out of his way and letting him enter the Keep. Rumors
spread quicker than it took the man to gain entrance to the Earl Marshall's
office. A new Earl Marshall had arrived, being bigger than the biggest Farin
ever seen and having the audacity to not wear any armor in his travels.
Later, a message was given to the town crier, " Good people of Lithmore, the
newly appointed Earl Marshall, Sir Athyndriel ab Orreyl, greets you all. He
says he would like to make this announcement himself, but has found that he
is already hip deep in paperwork. He wishes everyone to be well and Lord be
with you all." with that, the crier heads back to the Keep.

(OOC: A series of rolls were done by Staff to determine what the reception
actually was to the detailed speeches that have since been removed. Rather
than have an ongoing speech-debate, they have been summarized with the
results of their rolls.)
Word has circulated through the city that a foreign noble, the Countess of
Hevstina Farra dul Baildana, has taken the Lord Seneschal Veilus op Tethno to
verbal task by bad-mouthing him at the Court Malenta more than once this
week. In a series of speeches whose deliveries aggravated the Court's
socialites, it was said that the Seneschal has failed to deliver on promises
made during the bid cycle, and that he has not been communicative in general.
Little attention beyond what was required of her station was paid to the
Countess, although a literal list of unfulfilled campaign promises was later
unfurled that raised a few eyebrows.
The Seneschal soon fired back by journeying to the Court Malenta to address
those who heard the Countess' statements, remarking among courtiers that the
Countess could not even be bothered to attend the official meetings he
organized - how would she even know if promises had been fulfilled if she
didn't attend the meetings where they were discussed? His tepid reception
was not dissimilar to the reception the Countess received, although his
mention of work upon the orphanage did net him some genuine appreciation.
Within a matter of hours the Countess had filtered back through the Court,
diminishing the work done by the Seneschal to the orphanage and claiming that
his statements had been condescending to her. The Court and its numerous
courtiers expressed little if any interest, and soon the Countess ran out of
the Palace, naming an emergency with her husband as cause.

A week of political bickering ended in a most somber announcement from House
dul Baildana, who confirmed rumors that Lord Anatoly von Oppask-Baildana,
third son of Ikihel, was murdered while out on a hunt. While the official
statement mentioned only 'Vagabond bandits' rumor quickly spread that the
attack was carried out by a zealous branch of a neo-traditional Farin clergy.
Tensions between the Southern traditions of Davism and the Eastern, more
liberal, Vavardi religious views had been mounting for many long months since
a Farin priest spoke out vehementally against the Lady dul Baildana and
distant sins the church had long ago investigated by the mercurial
noblewoman; that very same priested, disgraced by the Order, was rumored to
have been amongst those who ambushed the Lord von Baildana.
The Queen's Justice was delivered without mercy to the bandits who survived
the initial ambush, judged and deemed suited to hang by a Reeve who arrived
upon the scene. The nobleman was buried in a hasty ceremony at an
undisclosed location; swiftly thereafter the Hevstina courtiers were leaving
the Palace in a rush, presumably to ensure the safety of the Countess and her
young Heir back in Hevstina.

As the sun started to set a hillman reeve took a stand on gallows by
the river square. Draped in reeve cloak, underneath could've been seen bits
of leather armour and an array of weaponry, all looking and smelling like
they spent multiple days in the sewers. As the crowd started to gather, he
spoke, sounding tired, exhausted but also with glimmers of passion were
present in his booming voice, if laced with far from the perfect grammar.
"Citizens of Lithmore. I am Bofaha Frasak Wolhiem. Warrior and hunter of
the late clan Bearslain, Guard of the Lithmorran, a former page of the Knight
Lithmorran and Journeyman of the Merchants Guild. Ya may know me for the
service here, part of capturing archmage Jakob ab Weaver, murderers Ries and
Cheena, and recently the so-called 'King of Southside' Orik Fratlass. And
today I gathered ya folk here to confirm, and clarify the ongoing rumours
about fates of Marossa Gardner and Sibylle dul Fontaine. It is true that
they are both alive and returned to the city, with the help of folk today
unnamed, but who do have my personal thanks. I also just returned, as you
can from the smell of me, from examining the place where they were held to
make sure that there be no more victims there, or at least their bodies. Can
report that found nothing else there and that it be officially closing the
matter of murderous Ries and his mage wife, Cheena. May they from now on be
forgotten. Must also explain how got information of where the place of their
keep is. It did not come from the brave women who made their escape, or some
random person who volunteered the knowledge but former members of the Holy
Order who were angered by into what farse the chase for Ries turned into.
And because of that, they trusted me with this knowledge. Sadly only now,
not months before where more blood and suffering could have been spared if
they acted upon it.
May the Giver watch and guide every single of us through the tough times,
knowing that criminals, and their supporters will meet their end here, at
this square. And will not stop in my work towards it, no matter how many
wicked tongues will speak ill of me. Or how many more stones will be thrown
at me."
With the speech finished the Hillman did not wait for crowds reaction,
swiftly taking his retreat into Ahalin instead.

In the early hours of the morning, the bells of the cathedral ring out,
summoning the people to it's halls. Standing in the altar room and lining
the halls are what seem to be almost all of the Clergy from the city.
Standing up front are three figures dressed in priest robes with their hoods
drawn up, and the High Priest of the Cathedral. After the pews have filled,
the High Priest speaks to the masses. " Good people of Lithmore, we called
you to the Cathedral today to not only have a Mass, but to also bring you
news. Gesturing to the three hooded figures, " We have three new Inquisitors
to add to our ranks in the Order. Each one has shown an aptitude for the
tasks befitting an inquisitor, though some have done so in only a short time.
Each one has taken an Oath of service to the Order, severing themselves from
any connection to any control to their family holdings. First is Inquisitor
Alan von Destrin," the man says, gesturing to the first cloaked person.
Stepping forward, the figure pushes back their hood and reveals a short
Vandagan man with close-cropped chestnut hair. The priest gestures to the
second person, " Inquisitor Seika Landatter." he says to those gathered. The
second figure stepping forward and, as the hood comes down, revealing a tall
blonde woman whose most notable feature is the stern look on her face. Then
the High Priest gesturing to the third robe figure that stands taller than
the others, " And finally, now former Earl Marshall, Inquisitor Athyndriel ab
Orreyl." The one most recently known as the Earl Marshall pulling back their
hood and revealing himself. The High Priest looks across the pews once more,
" Inquisitors Destrin and Landatter shall be sailing to Tubor to help the
branches of the Church there. Inquisitor Orreyl shall be staying here in the
city to help the Faithful here. And finally, High Inquisitor Jenifyr von
Vakhrova, " he says, gesturing to the narrow woman with canted, crystal blue
eyes standing amongst the Clergy behind him, " shall be returning to her
church in Vandago."
The High Priest places his hands on the pedestal before him, looking out
amongst the crowd, voice going somber even as it echoes through the chamber.
" As you all know, for the last few months, there has been no Grand
Inquisitor appointed. We have had a few we looked to, but each was better
suited to stay at the Church they are currently at, and tending to the people
and their Faith there. So, the High Synod kept searching. Finally, with a
letter from the Cardinal, they have decided on one." Then looking back to
Athyndriel, he says, " Inquisitor ab Orreyl, step forward." A look of
surprise coming over the tall man's face, then doing so. " Kneel." The High
Priest says, who again does so. The High Inquisitor von Vakhrova coming
forward with a holy book and a chalice. For the next hour, and with the
assistance of the High Inquisitor, the High Priest goes through a holy
ceremony, speaking from the book brought to him and letting the knelt man
drink from the chalice a few times during the process. Finally, when
finished, the High Inquisitor von Vakhrova smiles to the man, " Your Holy
Honor, my I be the first to congratulate and welcome you to Lithmore." she
says. As one, all of the Clergy in the hall then bow to the newly appointed
Grand Inquisitor. The Grand Inquisitor rising, a dip of the head given to
the everyone in the hall, then moving to the side. The High Priest then
turning to the crowd and smiling, " To honor this day, I shall now hold a
special Mass." he says, then leading the congregation in said Mass for the
next two hours.

Lord Rodion von Mozenk, a brother to the Baroness of Mozenk visiting from
Vandago, encountered trouble on Lithmore's Church Street - trouble in the
form of a mud-filled pothole which the lord faced head on. More precisely,
his horse foundered due to the poor state of the road and he fell off face
first in the mud. Several passersby had the nerve to laugh at the accident,
and the lord, already angry from embarrassment and the terrible upkeep,
accused the entire group of having stolen paving stones and purposefully
sabotaging it in order to humiliate him. He flagged down a group of passing
guardsmen and ordered the lot of them brutally flogged. Not satisfied until
one of them fell unconscious, Lord Rodion considered the matter closed, and
instructed the gathered crowd to leave the man where he lay on the street.
The common people, however, did not consider this the end of the matter.
Already having been growing more and more dissatisfied with their poor
treatment by the upper classes, they were outraged at what they called absurd
accusations and vicious treatment. A group of pandering gentryfolk protested
that the commoners should have known their place, that they were the ones who
had behaved abominably, and that they their sort well could have stolen
paving stones. The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, tense
relations seemed to finally break down altogether, freemen and gentryfolk
refusing to deal with one another, and only the strong hand of the law
keeping violence from escalating. However, in symbolic protest of their
treatment, many freemen have stolen broken cobbles in the dark of night,
reportedly 'since they were accused of doing so anyway', and have been making
jewelry out of it as a sign of solidarity.
