Which skills do you always take with all of your characters just because they're *that* useful to have in-game, even if you have to make up an excuse to have it in-character?

Personally, my big ones are papercraft and languages.

We're asking because we're writing a newbie guide and want to give them more info to help with decision making. Thanks!

I've never taken the papercraft skill, but languages are definitely up there. I don't know that I make excuses, per se, but especially as you create more complex characters with backstories extending outside of Lithmore, it's important to consider what that means for your character's ability to communicate. That, and I like playing scholarly sorts.

Edit: I also think Ride is an unquestionably useful, if not essential, skill, provided your char has the means to own (or rent?) a horse.
