While I think that restricting purchase wealth has been a net positive for the game, forcing players to go through on-grid, in-person means to become wealthy when not starting off with said wealth as fundamental to their character concept, I think the MUD and the IC economy could well be served by giving characters a limited amount of money they could create out of XP they've earned on-grid.

Why not allow the purchasing of wealth a few times per player once they're in Lithmore? Say .. once for a Freeman, 3-4 times for a Noble, 5-6 times for a Gentry? This experience used could follow the old rules of purchase silver/wealth and not count towards death XP, but can give players some small flexibility when they might need a sudden influx of gold for the many, many reasons that characters sometimes need a sudden influx of gold to help them in their RP and give players more confidence in creating characters who want to take some steps up the social ladder: while the core of RP will need to be with those who have the assets to help them, they wouldn't be completely put to the mercy of generosity.

Just because you NEED influx of gold doesn't mean that you should have it, that's the point of financial diversity. It may be worth to remind that social climbing ladder is frowned upon and should be avoided as per help freeman:
It's the position on The Inquisition that social class does not change often,
and should not. This means that it is almost impossible to climb the class
ladder once you have chosen to become freeman. Please do not create a
freeman character with the intent of building their social class, as this is
against the class system representative in The Inquisition theme.
Of course, if you will manage to make enough gold as a freeman to become gentry, you can, but this shouldn't come from magical purchase wealth. if that is your plan, roll a gentry from the start.

It's, of course, different for the gentry, but they climb by marrying a noble, not having more gold (although gold helps).

10 gold isn't going to be anywhere near enough for a Freeman to become gentry, hence limiting it to a one-time thing for that class, and to other degrees for the others; 30-60 gold (for 30k-60k xp!) isn't going to suddenly make any character a totally new one.

Except to all understandings, the allowance of Gentry to Noble marriages hasn't been allowed in a long time, so this isn't a viable avenue.
