The Baron of Perche, Giles ab Leidsfried, has apparently decided to run for
seneschal. He made that known in front of the Bluebird, which might seem
like a curious choice. However, as he pointed out, he does have a room
there, so it was a convenient choice. The speech was a relatively brief
"All -- I've decided to run not because I have anything against the
Proconsul; in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Really, I
barely know the man, but I have heard nothing but good things.
I am running because I think a little choice is a good thing. Furthermore, I
think I could do a very good job. All I really know how to do, frankly, is
manage a land, and I do it well. Perche is different than Lithmore City,
true, but I like to think that most of us are -- deep down -- pretty much the
same. I'm like many of you. I may have a title, true, but I'm also a
dedicated spouse, a proud parent, and a sibling to two remarkable people I
wish I could be a little more like.
Those who know me know that I initially came to this city to support Lord
Beaufort. However, after listening to several people who I am now quite fond
of, I changed my mind. Perche went for the Queen, Lord bless her, and I am
proud of my decision. I listened, and I realized she would be better for the
I am not a politician. If you want a politician for your own reasons, that's
fine. I am not your man. If you want a hard-worker who will take the job
seriously, though, I just might be. I am happiest when, at the end of a long
day, I reflect on it and say that I did a good, honest day's work. I spend
my evenings with my wife and family, and then I get up and put in another
day. That's how things are done in Perche, and I imagine that's how things
are done in most households in this fair city.
I am not going to pretend I haven't been extraordinarily blessed. I have.
The Lord has been very good to me, and I adore my life. Maybe, though, just
maybe, I can use what I have learned running a really great barony to improve
what is already a tremendous city full of tremendous people.
Lord's blessings on you all, and thank you for your consideration. I have to
go prepare for my lovely wife's visit now, but I will be around in the coming
days if you have any questions. Don't be shy."
With that, the baron stepped back into the Bluebird and, so the staff could
confirm, returned to his inn room.
