A Modest Influence Event

As is becoming a Lithmorran tradition, mouthy individuals clamouring around
the crossroads to yell at passer-bys. None other than Count Sauvaige dul
Betencourt appears with a small retinue of attendants and men at arms, draped
in the colours of House dul Betencourt. A black diamond on a white checked
background.

Several attendants cobble together a small platform and podium, and the man
himself ascends. A fist pounds upon the wood, drawing attention. "Right,
well. All you boring buggers are shouting at random passer-bys at the
crossroads - so why not yours truly?" He bellows with his thick Vavardi
accent lending a musical tone to his shouted words. "Eet is becoming an
endearing tradition, is it not? Engaging the common people into a public
debate." As he says those words, one dirty peasant raises his hand and starts
shouting a question, "Ey! Err, you! Betenblorp! When ya' gonna fix the
fackin' ro-" And the unwashed pleb is quickly cut off by the man. "Public
debate is the cornerstone of our great society, and as such, I shall
contribute."

Another fist slams onto the podium, "Yet again. Yet. Again. There is a
choice of one who trusts and serves the church, and one who does not. I
think the distinction is obvious, no? A simple choice. My public support
lends towards Countess Farra dul Baildana, for the simple fact of, Lithmore
cannot risk someone with ties to subversive elements of our population. The
stakes are too high, and the Poet Laudate as shown he cannot be trusted. Who
is to say he will not lend council funds into the hands of the witches to
strike a parlay for protection?"

An exaggerated shrug rolls off his shoulders, "Countess Farra dul Baildana, a
venerable member of the Nobility and with great folds of experience under her
corset - has the knowledge and ability to be an effective Seneschal. So.
People of this very... Obfuscating city, lend your support to the one who
has the knowledge and means to improve your lives. A troubadour,
entertaining... Yes, probably. Leadership and governance? Not so much.
Simple mathematics, right?" Again, a fist bangs onto the podium. "Do not be
the architects of your own demise!" He bellows, "Stop supporting utter
bastards." At this, he descends the platform, which is quickly dismantled by
his attendants and vanishes atop his horse.

The Lord Earl Marshall of the Knights Lithmorran sits on his destrier in
Church Square as two Squires and a Knight stand around him. Lorrent waits
for people to look his way before speaking up, voice rumbling.

"Wanted for crimes of heresy, for association with mages, for purchasing
magical items, for the use of magic items, for seeking the use of magic to
change their appearances, for plotting with maleficarum to use demonic
forces, for forsaking the religion of the Holy Order of the Warrior Prophet
Dav, for secular crimes including murder and murdering horses belonging to
the Knights Lithmorran, for murdering horses belonging to nobility and
freemen, for extortion and other crimes too many to list before nightfall, I
make public the search for Mister Donovan and Miss Claire, formerly known as
Ries and Cheena. Known to be extremely dangerous and associate with the
Brotherhood, known to have been leadership in that criminal cabal, known to
harm and extort the people of the Southside they claim to lead. All citizens
are charged to report any information they possess to the Knights Lithmorran
and the Reeves of the Crown. All citizens may do them harm, and any found to
be aiding them will be found guilty of aiding heretics. They have gone to
ground and it has been determined that making their warrants public can only
do good in expediting their capture. Thus spoken in the name of the Holy
Inquisition. All heretics will feel the full wrath of quartering for treason
and for willfully choosing to forsake Davism and choose evil."

With that said, the Marquis of Bastion turns on his steed and departs.

Spreading quickly from Southside, rumors hit the ears of tavern-goers and
common folk alike. Reports speak of seeing a few cloaks in the streets, not
that that isn't normal, but this was a large number. Moving through the
streets, they were quickly lost. Hours went by, but then word came out.
There was a new Tenebrae.

Some say that it was the bloodiest battle ever seen, the army of cloaks
cutting down members of the old regime one by one. That their bodies were
rendered into a bonfire or buried in the Southside cemetery. Others say it
was less bloody, that there was simply an exchange of words, a hardy
handshake, and the cloak of the original Captain passed on.

However it went, Southsiders seem to be a bit happier, if leery, of the new
regime.

A Trivial Influence Event

One evening as crowd composited mostly of freemen in Queen's was quite loudly
discussing the seneschal race. Suddenly Bofaha stood up and spoke, quickly
climbing some crate to be seen and heard among the crowd.

"Folks, you keep whining and talking about that candidate or another. And I
will tell ya one thing, that is what that Countess is doing - talking. I
never heard of her to come and help one of you, be it with the coin or her
work ye? She sure caters to all the fancy folk here, forgetting about us
between her long speeches

But you all know Veilus. Not because he makes some long speeches, and
fancies around. You know him because he is there when the little folk need
help ye? Like you, Arthand there, who was there when you were facing being
kicked out of the house after losing your work tools. Veilus. Even me, when
wandered to town long ago, if not for his help and support would surely not
be made of what am now, a Reeve serving this city.

So make ye support known for the man who was always there for us. And was
never ashamed to come and be approached by the ordinary folk, and never made
us feel like we need to beg to be allowed to breathe around him ye?".

The speech was met with approving grunts from the freemen and some hillmen
and charali who were in the earshot while Bofaha slipped away from the tavern
into the night.

A Trivial Influence Event

As has become expected by now yet another noble lends his voice to the public
forum. One cold morning Baron Drazhan von Radic of Vostock journeyed to
church square to hold a little speech of his own.

"Ladies and gentlemen of lithmore city." he began "Some of you know me, many
not so much... I am not a long standing member of this city, nor have I made
much waves within it yet. But as nobility it is my duty to be a guiding hand
for the poorer folk, I was born and raised to lead and as such I believe we
nobility know best what makes a leader."

"The Poet Laudate has shown strength in meeting his accusations head on. It
is unfortunate though he only did such when publically called out for it, I
hope he has learnt from that mistake. But from what I have heard he leads
his troubadours well, and I appreciate that. I really do, the role of
seneschal is open to all walks of life for a reason. Sometimes we get the
class anomaly's, nobles who cannot lead... And freemen and gentry who are
naturally born for such tasks. I think laudate op Tethno could make a fine
leader, but I do not think he is ready for seneschal. I think he should take
some time to reflect on recent events and use them to strengthen himself even
more."

"We of Vostock admire strength, not just in body but in spirit too. And by
the lord I think I have now seen the strongest spirit since coming here, lady
dul Baildana has truly shown herself to be strong. Her health may be
difficult right now but even so she has defied such things and managed to
continue in the race and even managed to rouse my heart truly to her cause.
I will admit I am a little in awe of the woman, it takes so much strength to
do what she has, and to that I say bravo. I think she will make a fine
seneschal if so elected."

"Remember my friends to vote with your hearts, both candidates have their
strengths and flaws and I do not think either would be a poor choice. The
city is in your hands, after all you are the masses. But I have rambled long
enough... I say good luck to both candidates and to their supporters."

And with that he left the area as quickly as he came.

A Trivial Influence Event

As the day waned into night and the people were gathering to depart for
unknown places, a woman dressed in violet was seen standing and addressing a
small gathering. "People of Lithmore." she said, her voice very vavardi and
almost soft, yet her speech was strong, "I know that the bard Veilis Op
Tethnoe has done crimes of ill repute, but does not the lord of the springs
say to forgive those who have done wrong if they have confessed? Surely you
all can understand. The Baroness dul Buldana has not done anything for your
city. I have not even seen her working with cherities. And if she has, I
have not seen the like of it. Please, choose someone whom you can trust.
Veilis may be a man of faults but he is trying his best to be a good leader.
As someone once told me when I was just beginning to run my Barony, "Everyone
has flaws. You can either bow down to your faults or rise up above them."
The tall noblewoman stands near the crossroads, and her face is lit in
shadow. Lyana Dul Olivier is the one speaking, and perhaps no one would have
thought the shy woman would have spoken, though when she speaks, her voice is
clear and almost authoritative, though ever kind. "I am not telling you who
you should choose," she continues, "but I want you all to think. Make the
choice that you wish to make." With that, the Vavardi noblewoman steps away
and turns, handmaids following as the crowd applauds.

Word circulates that this year's Magebane Festival will begin indoors, at
Saint Aelwyn's Cathedral, with a message from the Grand Inquisitor. After
that, the patrolling parade will wander the city together and likely stop
at a few places of interest along the way!

Participants are encouraged to bring their own masks, which can be bought
from artists, jewelers, leatherworkers, smiths, woodworkers or tailors in
many different materials. The Poet Knight will have a few masks available
as well. Cooks and brewers still have a chance to promote their wares, if
they contact Calanthe dul Valencia as soon as possible. And lastly, those
who wear delicate clothing are advised to bring a cloak or other covering
that is easier to clean.

*This has been RESCHEDULED for Sunday, 26 November, starting at 3PM EST.*
This technically involves combat but little actual skill is required!
Though a ST will be opened, this is intended to be a casual
post-RL holiday event. Any questions, contact Calanthe!

With the conclusion of the time of bidding, the Keeper of the Seal, taking
the recommendations of the court and city leaders, has selected Veilus Op
Tethno for the position of Lord Seneschal.

With his long history within Lithmore itself, as well as the good word of the
people from all classes, the Queen has agreed with this selection. Veilus,
receiving the position has worked to get settled into the office. That done,
he'd deliver a speech at Town Hall. "I want to thank everyone for their
trust in me. I will show that it is not misplaced. I know there is plenty
to do and we're already dealing with a few crisis.

My first order of business is to fund a restoration of the infrastructure of
the City. We have all seen how the streets are, we've all been frustrated by
it.

For those willing to work on it, I will see to it that coin is there to pay
for the work done. Please, contact me and we will go from there." Taking a
moment to gather his thoughts, Veilus continued on. "Both the Reeves and the
Order have their tasks before them. They have my support on their duties, as
always.

I have supported them in the past as the Poet Laudate and I intend to do so
now. Already the Orphanage has been built and I wish to see more done to
help people. One of the things I know of is the Farin front. There are
knights and soldiers there, good men who keep us safe from the Davari threat.
They need support and the Capital should be a good place to get it from. I
plan to work with the Merchants and Troubadours both to see to a fundraiser
for them." Veilus would look at the people assembled, listening to him.
Smiling, he'd shake his head some.

"I don't tend to give long speeches and I don't plan to change that now.
Know that this is the start of things I plan to change. I also fully plan to
listen to people who have grievences. Please, don't hesitate to contact me
and we will work together for how to get things resolved. We all know that
the Capital is a wonderful place to live. Let us all settle differences and
work together to make it even better to live here."

Calanthe op Valencia has taken on the role of Poet Laudate, filling the
vacancy left by Veilus op Tethno and surprising approximately no one.

As Poet Knight, op Valencia has been hard at work promoting the troupe
throughout the city, engaging in several impromptu performances as well as
working with visiting nobility and the Holy Order to host games, feasts and
other forms of public entertainment.

Her promotion comes on the heels of Magebane festivities, where she led a
raucous group of masked citizens on a traditional patrol for demons; in spite
of these highly visible activities, there have been concerns that the woman
has succumbed to the obscurity that often accompanies the demands of
administrative paperwork. Her quiet ascension to the guild's highest rank is
taken as proof that she'll continue to remain elusive, but regulars around
the Hollow Globe Theatre seem confident that Poet Laudate op Valencia will
continue pushing for increased bardic presence throughout the Kingdom's
capital.
