The typical dialogue for morning mass was replaced by a request for
assistance from Cardinal Calix. She asked Meranda Ditori and Tristana
Smithe up before the congregation to read personal letters to the people.
Meranda read the following:

To all of Lithmore,

I, Meranda Ditori, am here to publicly admit i have sinned. In the past
two months i succumbed to temptation and had intimate relations with
Tristana Smithe out of wedlock and while serving as an Inquisitor. While i
will admit i regret my actions i do not expect that to excuse them.
Recently i resigned as Inquisitor to pursue a life outside of the order,
yet when i was speaking with the cardinal about my resignation i failed to
inform her that at the time i was with child. As such i have also
committed the sin of lying. I will be branded once i have delivered my
child as the cardinal does not wish to bring undo harm to the yet unborn
child.

I hope that in the long-run i can be forgiven for what i have done but i do
not expect my sins to ever be forgotten for my brand will be a constant
reminder of my sins.

And Tristana read:

There is no easy way about it, I have committed an act of sin. I have
since learned that it is the sin of fornication without proper blessing,
worse, the sin occured with an Inquisitor, Inquisitor Meranda Ditori. It
has not been easy for me, to come to terms with the impact of this sin,
mostly in regards to the church. I would never leave a woman I impregnated
and the child from this to fend for themselves. Should the good people of
Lithmore find me, for my sins, unfit to continue to lead the merchant's
guild. Then I would understand, and pending the agreement of his Grace,
would step down. Otherwise, I hope to continue to lead the merchant's
guild to success and bring myself into right and good standing with the
Lord, the Crown, and to raise a proper family.

Signed,
Grand Magnate Tristana Smithe

Cardinal Calix concluded, "We must all strive to be our best selves. Where
we falter, we trust in our community to bring us back to the right path.
We trust our church, and our leaders, to be exemplars of the faith.

Meranda Ditori and Tristana Smithe have broken that trust. And they have
lied to the church. Given multiple chances to return to the right path,
the opportunity to spare their partner the burden of greater sin, they
instead persisted in their attempt to hide the truth from the Lord's
servants.

Because of this, the church doubts the sincerity of their interest in
standing clean before the Lord of the Springs again. We do not wish to
abandon them to an eternity of suffering so we are calling upon the
community's aid. If Meranda and Tristana can find ten people - five
people, each - to vouch for their sincerity, then the church will accept
the community's faith as a contract. These people should be members of the
church in good standing who are willing to stake their own good reputations
on the sinners' good intentions, who will actively work to ensure that
Meranda and Tristana understand the faith and what's expected of them.

May the Lord of the Springs forever bless the faithful with the courage to
admit their mistakes, the wisdom to learn from them, and the compassion to
assist those who suffer similarly."

In Martius 360 SC, Sir Lloyd le Tarrow announced his retirement as Earl
Marshall to the College of Grand Masters and the Holy Synod of Lithmore.
Talks regarding a suitable replacement commenced immediately. Due to the
status of the conflict in Edessa, the training and deployment of
disciplined Knights was at the forefront of the Synod's concerns.
Ultimately, the College and the Synod settled on Sir Argider de Roldan,
originally of Montford, Farin, who was selected by a majority vote. A
strong dedication to discipline and training, as well as many months'
experience as a combat instructor, were cited among the Knight's
credentials. Her Holiness Cardinal Olivia Calix voiced no objections to
the selection, and the Knight was inducted into the role shortly
thereafter.

When asked for a statement regarding his goals as Earl Marshall, Sir
Argider listed "the strengthening of Knights' training and education" and
"improvements in resources and records available to Knights" as some of his
primary concerns. He also acknowledged the situation in Edessa and the
increasing need for well-trained Knights.

Shortly after accepting the responsibilities of Earl Marshall, Sir Argider
tendered his resignation to the Merchants Guild.

Rumors are swirling around the city that someone is employing scribes to
write copies of a new gazette that will be pasted in the taverns of the
city and left in the old gazette drop boxes. The new tabloid rag will
focus on the rich, powerful, and poor of the city, indiscriminately
describing the life and times of the people of Lithmore.

Anyone wanting to make submissions of gossip or material for an expose
should send word to the Lithmorran Flame Editors (via Temi). All
information will of course be accepted, but if you really want to ensure
that your material will be printed in the next edition, than the addition
of some coin will grease the wheels. In addition to pieces on notables of
the city, limericks, stories, or other tall tales will be accepted, as
well. Anyone wishing to make advertisements may send those in, along with
coin, and see they get printed. The more coin you send, the more often and
more likely your ad will run in the tabloid.

Rumors have it that it'll be printed every (OOC) week so long as enough
material is submitted in a timely fashion.

OOC: Please mail TEMI and make it clear that the mail is for the Lithmorran
Flame editors.
Mail will be forwarded by TEMI to the person running the tabloid.
This is another in-game vehicle for submitting gossip, whether true
or false, about other characters. The editor is eager to recommend
players (whether or not you give your name to the editor) for material
submitted to the gazette that either spurs RP or deepens the game via
songs, peoms, myths, etc.

The Troubadours issue an announcement that proclaims Cira von Nivara as
the new Poet Laudate. They explain that discontent over the lack of
leadership lead to the bards seeking someone suited for such a role.
Cira's prior experience in Vandago, and her obvious dedication and passion
to the values that the Troubadours hold dear, led to her being so acclaimed
as Poet Laudate with popular support, especially from the bards of the
north. She has just recently arrived in Lithmore, and it lends little
light to why someone so young was elevated to leadership.

Following the height of the Summer, a shipment has been sent south,
laden especially with goods donated by the Merchants Guild, contributed to
the war effort in Daravi. The talk among those that helped to pack up the
shipments was of the gratitude of the troops for the assistance. In
Edessa, they face a fever pitch of a battle, an uphill fight in which they
are struggling not to lose ground. Apparently, supplies were growing quite
low when the shipment arrived this Spring, and the additional goods
contributed from Lithmorran donations was well-appreciated, increasing
morale and refilling their stocks enough that the fall delivery could wait
until the last minute, if it had to. Special thanks were given to Grand
Magnate Tristana le Smithe for his coordinating the efforts, and the
crown's contributions reassured soldier's of the dedication to the war
against the Daravi.

The city was recently called upon to bear witness to two separate
cleansings by fire.

First was Sofie Currolis, a chestnut-haired woman with ice blue eyes who
came willing to the authorities after discovering herself tainted with
magical ability. Raised on stories of the murder of her grandmother and
enthralling of her grandfather by a witch, Sofie knew from a young age "the
horror that mages can create," as she came to explain. When knowledge of
strange rituals and words began to enter her mind, she immediately
requested the aid of the Holy Order, even knowing it meant cleansing by
fire. After a proper investigation to ensure the validity of Miss
Currolis' claims, Grand Inquisitor Loreth ab Radford oversaw her soul's
cleansing and release at the River Square pyre.

A very different event occurred the next day, when a man named Hauwke de
Jandarn (also apparently willingly) confessed to being a witch. Some
alleged the man could twist the winds to his will, attacking those present
with unnatural gusts. Others insist the man was simply drunk. Ultimately,
the offce of the Inquisition performed a full Review of Faith. Hauwke
would lead the Grand Inquisitor and a pair of Knights to a little-visited
church outside the city walls, where a Davite shrine to Saint Bacca had
been defiled by witchcraft. Dozens of profane relics and broken magical
apparati were strewn about the church, which Hauwke said he had claimed as
his own home. Father Jerack, the priest officially stationed at the small
chapel, immediately aided in the cleanup and rededication of the altar.

Though Hauwke fought his captors at River Square, he was eventually subdued
with the aid of the Knights Lithmorran, and his soul properly cleansed to
return to the Lord of the Springs.

In the late noon hours of Lunisda in the month of Septembris, reports
slowly trickled down from the Palace gentry - first to the Bluebird, and
then to the smaller peasant taverns...
A cloud of fire was seen coming from the Azadar Suite balconies - and what
seemed like a body falling from those heights. However, the body is
reported to have disappeared before hitting the ground. Whether the talk
of some guards deep in their drink, or women without much to gossip about
today, the rumors are supported by one fact - the sickening smell of
brimstone throughout the palace halls. Word has yet to come from a Palace
official, and it has yet to be confirmed if Lord Casimir ab Azadar of
Avonna was caught in the unnatural fire.

St. Aelwyn's Cathedral solemnly reports that Cardinal Olivia Calix was
the target of a recent magical attack. There seems to be no direct link
with the more violent and public displays of witchcraft in Lithmore, though
some have speculated that the unknown assailant used the preoccupation with
current events to exploit a weakness in church security. The negative
effects of the magic, expected to wear off in a few days, have instead
lingered to the point where the High Synod has had agreed to relieve Her
Holiness of her duties, and remove her to an undisclosed location to
convalesce. A few names have been submitted to replace her but no decision
has been made yet.
