The Baron of Vostock, Drazhan von Radic, took to church square in order to
give a speech of his take on recent events.

"Lithmorrans, fellow Vandagans. Vavardi, tubori and farin. And even our
Hillish and Charalin residents. I am here today to speak to you all about
this seneschal race. Personally I would not place stock in a man who is
wanted by the holy order for such accusations as he has. I would urge you to
instead place your faith in the noble countess Farra dul Baildana. She is
the only candidate in this race worth your vote my friends. And should she
also be pulled from the race then do not forget a new election could easily
be done. Do not feel you are left with no choices citizens, for it is you
who have all the choice in this. It is up to you to choose who you think
will be best.

I have said my peace, I trust you all to choose as you feel best and I hope
this city soon has a good seneschal, worthy of the title. Lord bless you
all, and stay strong."

And with that he left as quickly as he came.

At the morning mass of the first Octobris Solisda, further fuel was thrown
upon this rather strange Seneschal campaign when Father Bint Ronth from
Bastion attacked the character of the noble nomination, Countess Farra dul
Baildana.

"As we speak of the sins of those who would guide us forwards, let the city
not forget the wickedness of the Tramp of Hevstina," the typically
mild-mannered, elderly priest told his congregation. "As we consider the
possible implications against the soul of Veilus of Tethno we must maintain
constant vigilance against a woman who has betrayed her indecorum time and
time again in the past. A woman so hot-headed she forced Regent ab Jinosa to
evict her personally from the Court, have we all forgotten that she, too, was
found to be in bed with the scourge of magery?"

"But what else could come from one who so flaunted her indiscretion of the
Lord's natural order that she lay with her -female- servants?" The wizened
priest went on, bringing up a long-forgotten name: Lissette dul Vallette, the
Countess's Lithmorran Steward who was revealed to be a magical kind of
heretic who evaded the flame. "Is the Countess poisoned now by this mage,
who yet remains alive whispering into her noble peon's ear as they indulge in
sinful, carnal fornication each and every night?!" The sin of homosexuality,
raised recently by a very public whipping in Lithmore City, drew a feiry
response from the crowd.

"Some will tell you the sin is forgiven, the woman is cleared of guilt. But
I tell you this: any woman who ruts around with man, girl, or animal before
wed before the Lord should stand justice and penance in the eyes of the Lord
and his Order, should stand in the public eye of those she has betrayed and
wear a brand to announce her shame to pious eyes. And that she glorifies
still her bastard son, conceived by sin unrepented? The Harlot of Hevstina
must never lead Lithmore City."

The shockingly-said accusations spread like wildfire through the center of a
duchy which has heard one too many recent accusations against the Order
rather than by it. An angered freefolk were all-too-happy to remember the
vicious rumors which once surrounded the foriegn noblewoman. Although both
the Order and the Reeves reacted swiftly, imprisoning the priest on charges
both sacred and secular, it became clear quite quickly that the accusations
made by the Lord of Bastion against Veilus op Tethno would not swing the
public's confidence to the Vavardi noblewoman so easily.

A Trivial Influence Event

With the public rumors and whispers going around following Father Bint
Ronth's attack on Countess Farra dul Baildana, a young Lithmorran priest
named Gerald Clift came forward to share his feelings and wisdom on the
matter.

"My fellow Davites, it pains me that a fellow member of the Order has said
these things about one of their own." The young man starts off infront of a
congregation, "While I understand the concerns of Father Bint Ronth, I also
do not condone his words as he speaks of someone above his station in such a
disrespectful way. The Countess of Hevstina has made transgressions in the
past, this is true and none will deny. However in light of these sins, the
Order has claimed her soul cleansed of the taint." He speaks out before
calming the congregation.

"It's a teaching of the Davite faith that once one has been punished and
their soul cleansed that you welcome them back with open arms and not hold
their past discretions against them, lest they turn to their unclean ways
once more. By trying to condemn the Countess of Hevstina in the way that he
has, Father Bint Ronth has forsaken teachings that he should be upholding
more than anyone else!" The young man proclaims, causing yet another amount
of uproar in the group gathered, "My fair people, I ask you not to think ill
of Father Bint Ronth for his words, only pray for his forgiveness within the
Church and that he not have to suffer. The man has spoken against his
betters in a public forum as I speak with you now, though he did so in hate
and I do so in love."

The young priest's words causing a bit of a stir among the people, though
they quiet down to listen to the rest of what's being spoken. "Now I ask
that we all pray for not only Father Bint Ronth, but also for the Countess
Farra dul Baildana, that the harsh words not taint the soul of a great
noblewoman such as she." With the last words and the request spoken, the
young priest leads his congregation in a prayer, bowing his head at the end
with a soft voice, "May the Lord keep you all, I hope to see you in the

When all was said and done with the sermon, a lanky Charalin man with auburn
hair and earthy green eyes walked up to the young priest, offering him a bow
of respect and thanking him for his kind words, before taking his leave.

It was a chilly day, on the eve of the first day of Octobris.

Yet, the tranquility was shattered, quite literally, as a jar was reported
being thrown, glass shattering against the floor of the University's grand
library.

Fire erupted, smoke escaping out from the stone building. The smell of aged
parchment assailed the senses, burning in the cool winds.

It was reported, however, that two people were seen entering the Grand
Library as it suffered this torching, one bearing the winged staff of the
Physicians, tending to the unconscious librarian and ushering the wounded out
of the building, and the other woman bearing a paper mask, securing the
building for the bucket brigades which allowed the fire to be contained with
only minimal damage.

As the political climate begins to thicken, again, the Grand Inquisitor made
an announcement in response to the Lord Earl Marshall Lorrent de Bastion's
accusations against the Poet Laudate Veilus op Tethno.

"The Poet Laudate came to me soon after the Lord Earl Marshall's speech. He
quickly and willingly confessed that he did, in fact, pay money to the Manus
for around a year. This was something the Laudate did of his own accord, and
he did not do it with the consent of the Troubadour's, or their knowledge.
The Troubadour's, in this regard, are free of any accusations. The Laudate
intended to give money to the Manus in hopes they would leave the Theatre
alone. While his intentions were to keep the Hollow Globe safe, the actions
he took were not acceptable."

"The Laudate suggested his penance be a donation, as his sin was of the
monetary variety. I proposed a few projects that he might send his money to.
As penance, the Laudate has hade a monetary donation to rebuild the
Orphanage. We will release public plans for the building once they have been
concluded."

"The Laudate has repented, and cut all monetary ties with the Manus. We
believe the donation of his personal funds to assist the Orphanage is
adequate. He has always been relatively devout, and quick to come to the
Order with concerns or issues. He has outed his own Troubadours to the Order
in the past, upon finding they were mages. Gildarts, and Addienna, as
examples. In this case, he was driven by fear, and failed to seek the
Order's assistance. For that, the Laudate has repented, and we believe he
has never had the intentions of working against the Order. Our investigation
into the Laudate is closed, his penance has been paid, and we wish him luck
in his campaign for Seneschal."

A Modest Influence Event

On an unusually warm Octobris afternoon, the Countess of Hevstina made a
public appearance at Nimrock Square, speaking to a gathered assortment of
gentry and freefolk regarding recent accusations both against her and her
opponent. Dressed in fine silks, she was a model of noble authority as she
addressed the crowd with cold eyes and a passionless expression countered by
the fierceness of her words.

"New days recycle old news; old ambitions create new foes. I applaud the
Order for their swift arrest of Bint Roth for his attempts to slander my name
and title by recycling years-old scandals long since resolved in both the
public eye and before the purity of Dav. The man was eloquent when
describing the mistakes I made with my household but strangely silent when
given the opportunity to continue the story of Lissette Vallette and Farra
dul Baildana. He fails to mention how, when the woman revealed herself to me
what she was, I drew my sword and sought to smite her and was turned away
only by the witch's responding horrors, leaving me burned and blasted."

The Countess paused often to cough, appologizing that the changing weather
was seeing fit to disrupt her humors. Detractors in the crowd tried to point
to the wheezing as the Lady's failing health but to little avail amongst her
gathered supporters. "When faced with difficult choices, I have chosen time
and time again to put my duty above my body, to not try to hide away from the
horrors of the world but to meet them with the resolute courage the Queen and
the Lord asks of her nobility. I will not be cowed by threats from any man,
woman, or masked horror in the night."

Her voice hardened further; those present spoke of the woman's barely
held-back anger with her next words. "The Poet Laudate shows, with his
admission to knowingly funneling money to the Rubeus Manus, a core weakness
in his character. While such cowardice can be tolerated in the vicar of the
Hollow Globe, this desire to cow to the demons which haunt us is not
something that will go away simply if Veilus is elected Seneschal. How many
spells did op Tethno's money fund for the now-pyred Manus? How many were
threatened by his craven approach to defending the city? And how convenient
that the Laudate confessed this sin only when it became public and not in the
immediate aftermath of the Manus's death."

The speach, which then moved on to reinforcing the Countess's desire to see
the streets of Lithmore safe from such threats of both arcane and mundane
shadows, marked a pointed turn from her announcement bid in which she praised
the Poet Laudate's leadership of the Troubadors.

A Modest Influence Event

On a chilly Octobris morning, Veilus Op Tethno was seen gathering people at
the Crossroads. Looking over the crowd that showed up, he'd listen to people
talk about what the others have said about him. After a bit of talking to
people one on one, he'd raise his hands to try and get people to lower to a
low murmur as he'd speak. "I know there has been a lot of talk going around
about me of late. We all know that the Order lately has had a rough time
with mages sneaking into it. I will be the first to admit I was scared of
not knowing who to talk to, who to trust within the Order when I was
threaten. I picked poorly, I was simply seeking to try and protect those
within the Troubadours due to the threats done to me from the Manus." Letting
that linger a moment as the murmur started then receded, Veilus would speak
up again. "Now, I know plenty of people out here have dealt with the
troubles that mages bring. Have dealt with leaders who say they will do
something and then nothing happens. I could go on about my fellow canadate.
I could talk about others who spoke out against me. I won't. I am running
for this position to do good for the city. I saught out the Grand
Inquisitor. I admitted to my sin and I paid my pennace for it. I don't
claim to be better than anyone. We all sin. We all make mistakes. Why
would I even pretend to be otherwise?" Gathering his thoughts a moment,
Veilus finally nods. "I ask people to support me as I will do like I did
with the Troubadours. I have been with them through thick and thin. I have
been through the Globe being burned down. I have been through tragedy after
tragedy in my own life and still I stand strong for them, for anyone who
wishes entertainment. Now? I am bringing that same determination to the
leadership of Lithmore. I wish to help everyone, I wish to hold leaders
responsable for their guilds and I wish to make life better. I have taken
the Oath of the Bards. I always seek the truth. I always speak the truth.
That is what I will continue to do and if I'm seen as worthy of the position?
Then I will listen to those with grievances and I will do my level best to
see they are addressed."

Standing within The Globe Theatre, Baron dul Legrange addressed the
Troubadours, speaking with enthusiasm.

"Many of you have worked under the Leadership of Poet Laudate op Tethno, and
have seen him struggle in the positions. He is a man of flaws, but also a
man who is honest and is genuine. He has been honest, he has confessed his
sins to the church. He has laid out what he intends to do for the city in
theory and seems able to listen to the People, working for all."

With this The baron continued after a breath. "I believe that even though,
The Laudate has had issues in the past, he is a person who can bridge the gap
between class, and race who has knowledge of people and how they think and
will listen to their needs. Therefore, I put my backing behind the Laudate
and wish him all the success."

Once finished, The baron sat down and returned to his business, amidst the
buzz of conversation amongst the bards.

A Consequential Influence Event

Dressed in a gown which was, given the company, remarkably plain, Farra dul
Baildana spoke at the Court Fresca within the Palace before the gathered
Council and the representatives of absent nobles and guilds. The circlet she
chose to wear was silver, three-peaked but without the elaboration many had
come to expect from the gold-loving noblewoman, but her voice retained the
charismatic intensity she had shown in speaches before a more supportive
crowd.

"Men and women of the Council," she began, poised and confident, "as Octobris
fades into Magebane I stand before you one final time to discuss my desire to
serve this city, its Duchy, her Queen, and its Lord as Seneschal. I would
first like to thank the Earl Marshall for his determination to Duty and his
adherence to Honor during this campaign and revoke those who whisper the
pursuit of safety was a ploy to sway public perception. Having faced Demons
in a very physical sense myself, it defies the audacity of my dreams that so
many of Lithmore's sons and daughters pick up the sword, axe, spear, and bow
to risk their lives, day in day out, against the chaos of the eldritch
terror."

"I did not return to Lithmore City from Hevstina to play politic," the woman
continued with a thin smile, her eyes sliding across those gathered before
the dias. "I came to invest in a business, to bring a bit of Hevstina's
quaint culture to the capital. Such goals had to be put away after a few
correspondences with key merchants; how could Baildana Fashions be my
priority when the streets of our proud city were shadowed with vagrants,
ruffians and the brotherhood? So I met with the Earl Marshall, with the
Grand Master. I discussed the idea that the Knights could assist the
then-beleagured Queen's Guard by showing a presence in the streets. I spoke
with the Poet Knight and the Laudate -- yes, my opponent -- to ensure that
the Globe with which I am proud to be affiliated with had a focused approach
to the troubles on the street. Already, in a season's time, marked
improvement has been made. Much work remains to be done."

The small noblewoman paused, then, to consider the throne behind her before
addressing the court further. "I first came to this court ten years ago in a
world that has seen much change since then. The Countess who boasted in
these halls was a youth whose folly was her belief that words were the fire
of governance: that they would be quenched if not expelled free and full from
graceless lips. And so, I was expelled, quite rightfully so, by then-regent
the Lord ab Jinosa." Her wry smile spoke of her beamusement of the
foolishness of her own past. "In the years since then I have learned to wear
the mantle of leadership as the proud burden that it is. Through the wisdom
of many -- the eloquent Lady ab Aguarossa, the generous Lady ab Kovar, the
stoic Lord of Hevstina, my husband, and many more -- I have grown to
appreciate the need of a careful and measured approach to the alliance which
binds this Council together."

"It is the privledge of our spot on this council that we are appointed the
sacred duty to guide Lithmore, to not settle for the common goals of
individual dreams but to, together, strive for the extraordinary splendor we
can obtain through unified goals. As a Councilwoman, I will happily continue
to do as I have done already: seek to keep watch upon this city's troubles so
that her freemen and gentry can exalt themselves through their work. But as
the chosen leader of this Council I will stubbornly commit myself to
stubbornly gathering the focus of us all-- nobleman and guildmistress-- to
the glory of an achieving kingdom, to continue what Dav himself began in
unifying us before the Lord of Springs."

Many in the wide audience seemed moved by the Countess's inspired speach of
sacred responsibility, but the passionate Countess did not stop at that.
"Councilmembers, I implore you all to not settle on the quiet words to close
aquaintances that have dominated this campaign. Messages need to be spoken
to be heard and the people of the city strain for our leadership. Thank you,
Baron dul Legrange," Baildana said, meeting the eye of the well-dressed Lord
of Nimrock, "for your public support of op Tethno in the Globe. That is the
sort of firm statement which will help soothe the city no matter who it is
who is elected. Whether in favor of my bid or in op Tethno's, passion is the
fuel of change. And there is nothing worse than a lukewarm pool."

Clasping her hands before her, the woman made her final implorations of those
gathered. "So consider what you heard of us. Take into account our
characters, the victories and vices of our histories. Envision for a moment
the city you wish to see in six months time, and in six years time, and in
sixty and in six hundred years time. And take action; thank you."

With that, the Countess of Hevstina concluded what had been made apparent was
her final speach of the campaign. Transcripts of the speach were circulated
amongst the city and brought to the councilmembers who could not attend in
person. As the harvest moons began to brighten and preparation for the
Magebane ceremonies became closer to reality, the kingdom awaited the final
verdict.

Looking back at the University, Percival dul Ruben rearranges a glass box of
insects under his arm and steps up into the waiting carriage. That was the
last most saw of the scholarly gentleman as the cart trundled out northwards
to Vavard.

It would later circulate among the rumour mongers that Percival dul Ruben has
returned to Vavard, having completed a collection of over two hundred native
specimens of beetles and insects for the University of Vavard.

Letters bearing the postal marks of Vavard and signed by the professor arrive
every now and again at the Lithmore University, exchanging notes on the
collection and the greenhouses of Vavard.
