As the Grand Inquisitor Arlow von Lorven left the Cityguard Headquarters on
the evening of Augustus the 10th, Sun Cycle 375, Justiciar Steven dul
Greighton stepped into the courtyard to address his ranks and a gathering of
onlookers:

"This evening the Grand Inquisitor and I sat down together to discuss the
long pending warrants of Empena Cybinese and Rothgar Astartes. To answer for
their charges of criminal involvement with the Brotherhood of Common Goods
they will give themselves over to the Queen's justice without further delay,
and once they have received their lashes I expect of the population - and my
Reeves - to treat them with the respect due of any retired office holder.

"Let it be known that I am not of the belief that their actions were
performed with ill intentions. I believe they did what they could with what
lay at their fingertips, but I also believe that the Queen's Law is the
Queen's Law - that whatever their intentions, whatever their rank,
involvement with the Brotherhood of Common Goods remains a violation of it.

"In so far as the accused's affiliation with the Rubeus Manus, the Grand
Inquisitor's word is the Holy Law, and as such the decree made to the public
clearing the pair of Heretical violation is supported wholeheartedly by the
Reeves.

"As secular law enforcers, we are not and have never been comfortable in a
position where we are required to sit in judgment over the relationship
between a former Inquisitor and the Rubeus Manus. It is a relief, not a
challenge, that the Grand Inquisitor did his duty, investigated the matter
fully, and made his rightful ruling on matters of the faith.

"Let all be aware that the Reeves and Holy Order have and continue to enjoy a
strong foundation of camaraderie. Our disagreements are disagreements among
allies, not the stitches of a tapestry falling loose; the Reeves will
tolerate no challenge against our allies in the Holy Order, much less made on
our behalf. Obey the Church, obey the law, and walk carefully.

"May the Lord guide us all."

On the evening of Augustus 10, in the lounge of the Merchants' renovated
Guildhall (and with celebratory brandy in hand), Lord Eirian ab Castell was
seen handing over the keys to the guild to the gentrywoman Miss Elle ab
Wilde. A letter was circulated among members of the Merchants' Guild not
long after, naming Miss Wilde as the next Grand Magnate, praising her
accomplishments at the Vavardi Trade Offices, noting her ambitious goals, and
supporting her future work with the current Magnate, Evani le Tavari, who has
also received praise from the nobleman. According to the letter, the new
Grand Magnate was elevated with the current Magnate's blessing, as well as
the approval of the Magnates' Council. The Marquis' capable assistant,
Master Maksim von Bezslov, is rumored to be staying behind to assist Miss
Wilde in acclimating to her new role.

On a foggy morning in mid-Augustus 375, a small convoy bearing House Castell
colors was seen departing Hazelwood. Lord Eirian ab Castell was at the front
of the procession, dressed warmly and well-equipped for a long and rugged
journey home. He had several guards, loyal servants, and of course his
ever-present wolfhound with him. In light of recent rumors and announcements
among the Merchants' Guild, the Marquis' departure was well-anticipated and
came as no surprise to those keeping up with current events. Some citizens
stepped out of their homes to see him off, waving kerchiefs in farewell or
calling out felicitations for his upcoming nuptials, but the exodus was
largely muted and uneventful. Before long, the procession was well on its
way, and even the bright scarlet banners fluttering in the wind were no
longer visible along the muddy road leading westward to Dastur.

A slimly built and dark-haired woman gathered a group of citizens at the
square outside cityguard headquarters to present a speech which she recited
from a lengthy parchment. Those in attendance noticed not only the sincerity
behind the woman's voice, but that she repeatedly struggled to reign in what
must have been a preposterously thick Vavardi accent:

"I speak to you today with the permission of the Lord Justiciar Steven dul
Greighton on behalf of the cityguard, in hopes of addressing recent attempts
to unseat the Seneschal dul Betencourt."

"The turmoil that Lithmore has endured these last few months opened the doors
to rising crime and emboldened offenders that would otherwise hide in the
shadows. There are those who speak openly against not only Her Royal
Majesty's rule, but the eternal Wisdom of the Holy Order. Citizens have
vanished from streets that ought be safe to walk alone at any hour, and there
is so narrow a window to solve these injustices that they are often too far
gone by the time we are alerted of their existence. We as a city cannot
sustain more turmoil, yet here we are ready to invite it in - to worsen our
lot by casting aside our Seneschal, shouldering more upheaval for little
knowable cause."

"Whatever your thoughts on Lord Knight dul Betencourt, whatever reasons you
believe you have to take action against him, consider instead the benefit of
ending this perpetual cycle of chaos by retaining - and working with - your
city's leadership. If believe you have been unheard, pen a petition to his
desk. If you believe there has been little reach from his office, offer him
your support to elongate his arm. Above all, be responsible and not
vindictive. Work together, not against."

"In closing, I implore you to consider the longterm ramifications of
unseating the Seneschal where a simple dialog may suffice; to use your
influence to keep the him in a position where he can put his own to good use.
Have faith in him to do his duty, and may the Lord bless us all."

On a cloudy morning, in front of the town hall, Baron Micah dul Legrange
addressed a gathering of the citizenry with a grave yet confident voice.

"Citizens of Lithmore. It has been long enough that the council has not met
to decide upon what should be done about the state of the city. Many of you
have reported fear for your safety. Many of you have spoke of the sinking of
the city into an unruley state, and We have heard you. Lady Aguarossa has
called for a gathering of the council to discuss strategies in addressing
this matter, and I wish to give her my full support. It is time that we
address such issues, so that with decisive action we may be able to bring
Lithmore back into balance; to assist the Reeves in performing their duties.
For Lord justiciar Steven dul Graten has done such a wonderful job given the
issues he has received upon taking office, and it is our duty to support him,
so that he may be able to bring the full force of the law to bear on criminal
activity effectively."

It was after this statement that his voice took on a sharp note, one of grave
resolve.

"Unfortunately, I believe while the Lord Seneschal has intended to make
efforts in these areas, He has done a poor job in executing his plans. We
have not seen a meeting of the council called for by him. We have yet to
hear of what he plans to direct his focus upon. And it is because of this
that I publicly call for action to take place. We on the council are here to
support him in his ventures. We are here to give advice. Until now, we have
seen little from the office that is so important to the governing of the
city. So, it is with this I must request that Count dul Betencourt make an
effort to speak for himself and his office so that our confidence in him can
be restored."

Once finished with this speech, The golden-blond Baron turned and made his
way into the town hall about his business.

A corpse, and that is what it obviously is, with sword wounds and decaying
flesh and maggots eating its innards plainly visible, is tied to the pyre.
And yet it moves still, reaching out for those nearby, trying to grab at them
and twisting against its restraints. It continues doing so even after being
lit aflame by the Grand Inquisitor, who steps to the side as the giant Lord
Earl Marshall of the Knights Lithmorran steps in front of the burning wight
to speak.

"This is what the Inquisition works to protect us from. If not worse.
Mages, demons, products of dark magic. And this is the fate that awaits all
magical creatures, mages, witches, vessels of demons, and heretics. To be
burned, and cleansed from Urth, for the Lord to heal what He can. Capturing
these evil things is the sworn duty of every Knight Lithmorran. I found this
wight while wading knee deep in excrement - rats, flotsam, bodily fluids,
worse. It made no pause as a I hacked into it, ichor spewing, while it still
tried to wrench my head from my neck. Yet I, just a man sworn to fight evil,
overcame it and brought it to the Inquisitions flame, as is my Davite duty as
a Knight."

"Consider please, people of Lithmore. I and the Knights Lithmorran are but
men and women pledged to the service of the Holy Synod. We hear their words
through their chosen Grand Inquisitor. And if we have to wade through
literal fecal matter in our pursuit of demons and their playthings, who
amongst us can not but trust that the Grand Inquisitor understands exactly
how much shit is acceptable to wade through in the Inquisitions pursuit of
heresy." A pause. "Look upon what horror is being fought, and let us once
more regroup, as Faithful. And let us once more bring the cleansing flame to
the heretics and malefic arum that threaten us all." With that, the Lord Earl
Marshall falls silent, looking to the Grand Inquisitor as he sets the undead
corpse aflame at the pyre. And it burns.

On a clear morning in front of the Merchant's guildhall, Baron Micah dul Legrange addressed a gathering of Merchants and apprentices, speaking enthusiastically as he addressed the people.

"It is my great honor to address you all today in regards to the merchants. As some of you may know, I have met with the new Grand Magnate Elle ab Wilde, and we have spoken at length about the state of the Merchants as well as the city. It is both a privilege for me to engage in such a conversation with such an intelligent and focused leader, which I believe the Merchants Guild needs. His Lordship ab Castell has chosen well with this replacement."
With a gesture of a hand, he continued to speak, his tone taking on a distinct note of praise for the grand Magnate.

"She has explained to me that her time in Vavard, as well as her focus on trade throughout the duchies has given her a great deal of experience. And, our dialogue reminded me highly of the type of quality expected from the Merchants of Vavard. She has expressed a desire to consolidate the efforts of the merchants so that this establishment of strength may continue to grow and become much more of a force in the city. So, it is with pleasure that I publicly give my support for the Grand Magnate, and hope to see her grow and thrive in the role she has been elivated to. It is my hope that we see The Guild continue to show profit and bounty such as the lord has provided for our merchants."

With his speech concluded, the Baron of nimrock made his way through the crowds amidst cheers and well wishes from merchants and apprentices before heading off upon his business.

On an unusually brisk Augustus morning the Justiciar Steven dul Greighton
appeared at River Square with a lash at his hip, and led both Empena Cybinese
and Rothgar Astartes to the gallows platform. Citing her ailing health,
Cybinese's lashes were reduced from a brutal fifteen to seven, which were
carried out without notable fuss before a gathering of townspeople. Astartes
received received the full count of his own lashes. With both backs bloodied
and fines fully paid, the warrants were removed from their public posting and
the matter concluded.
