The Lady Justiciar Rimilde von Rievirkrintz along with Magistrate Hunapo le
Marama stood outside a scorched Cityguard with a number of armed Reeves. A
simple statement was issued as Reeves tended to the damage.

"This is a horrific and heinous act, which targets the fundamentals of law
and justice in our society. Those responsible will, no doubt, be held
accountable for this cowardly act. I have promoted former Seneschal and
previous Proconsul Hunapo le Marama, back to the position of Proconsul of
Lithmore to oversee local efforts involving the fire and to work with the
Holy Order on this investigation.

I want to thank all those who have assisted the Reeves during this time,
including members of the public, your efforts are deeply appreciated and
should be recognized. I ask that community do their part and report any and
all information to the Reeves and the Order. Please ensure that you send
this to all the Reeves on the roster, as with any complaint to ensure that it
gets to the on-duty Reeves," with a serious and stern expression, the
Justiciar and the newly appointed Proconsul returned to dealing with those
affected.

"Shortly after my promotion to my current position, the captain of the
Wardens - the mercenary group which was brought under the roof of my guild
under the leadership of a former Grand Magnate - and I entered into
negotiations to see her group split from the ranks of the Merchants so that
the Wardens might stand alone in their own right. With Zara dul Fontaine's
recent return to the city, I am pleased to announce that this amiable split
has finally occurred. Any who wish to join the Wardens or have any questions
as to their future should contact the captain directly. Any Wardens who are
both Warden and Merchant, please be assured that your position within the
guild will be maintained. Lord bless you all and do be well."

On the afternoon of Lunisda the 7th of Quintilis, a mob of Freemen poured
through the city, gathering as one at the crossroads. Two gentrymen and one
gentle-born woman lost their lives when the crowd caught and dragged them to
the ground, beating and tearing at their finery. Included among the dead was
a shopkeep at a local, high-end restaurant, who was dragged to the middle of
the mob and hung by a makeshift noose. Witnesses report hearing jeers and
laughter while the woman twitched.

The Reeves answered the call of duty and did what they had to to restore
order, turning the crossroads into a battlefield; with one side wielding
maces and whips, the other farm tools, blacksmith's hammers and eating
knives, the Reeves -- who were legitimately outnumbered -- still cleared the
mob of untrained Freemen over the course of about an hour.

Blood now stains the cobblestones. A cut, makeshift noose still dangles from
a set of eaves near the granite pillar, and a few bodies rest wrapped in
linen under the shade tree. The Reeves are said to have three shackled
members of the mob locked up in Ahalin, awaiting the Queen's justice.

As evening falls on the city of Lithmore, darkness covering the remnants of
recent struggles between freemen and higher classes, merchants and farmers
pour through the gates to their homes and abodes. At the Eastern gate of the
city grows a commotion, that turns into a hubbub, as a few dozen men in
formation and armour approach the city. A banner flies showing a golden lion
holding a white chalice on a field of red, growing larger as they grow
closer. Admittance is quick, and bystanders are just as quick to gossip
about how the men look like they've seen recent battle. Rumours fly that
they were set upon by a Daravi raiding party shortly after leaving Bastion in
Farin. Regardless of the accuracy of such gossip, one thing is certain: The
new Lord Lorrent de Bastion, Marquis of Bastion, known to have spent half a
decade on the front, has arrived to the city.

At sunrise, a company of heavily armed reeves gathered from the capital and
surrounding regions, led by the Chief Magistrate of Lithmore, Jozafat
Steenson, and the Proconsul of Lithmore, Hunapo le Marama summoned the city
to River Square to mete out the Queens Justice. The heavily armed reeves
were walked the streets, ensuring everyone who was able was present, and were
sure to take up defensive positions around the square, some with weapons
drawn and a keen eye might have spotted the archers on the rooftops, arrows
nocked.

In the square a special scaffolding had been erected, to hang four persons at
once. The Queens Banner and the Standard of the Queens Reeves, The Scales of
Justice and the All Seeing Eye, fluttering in the hot summer breeze.

The Chief Magistrate spoke first, reading out the charges in in thick Hillish
accent. "For the crimes of Murder and Inciting to Riot, these individuals
have been sentenced to hang by their neck until dead." He turned and gave a
nod to the executioner who dropped the trap doors, sending them to their
deaths, yet for some reason, the one identified as the leader, didn't have his
neck snap. No, somehow his noose had been tied incorrectly and the crowds
were made to watch as the man flailed about, slowly choking to death under
his own weight.

After the chief magistrate finished the foul dead the old and weather worn
Tubori stepped forward, armor reflecting the rays of the sunrise. He grabbed
the body of the one identified by Jozafat as the leader and set it upon the
chopping block, taking the axe from his side and, with several violent hacks,
removed the head from rioter's shoulders. Once free the Proconsul threaded
his fingers into its hair and held the grotesque trophy at his side.

Limping to the edge of the stage he began to speak, his thickly accented
baritone booming across the crowds, "Citizens of Lithmore, hear my words for
I intend to only speak them the once. Her Royal Majesty will not stand for
murder, rioting, or seditious acts in her capital. You are henceforth and
forthwith ordered to disperse and behave like good Davites, minding your
station. Further disturbances will result in a state of martial law and the
punishment for all crimes will become execution."

He raised the head up to his chest so that the terror locked face peered out
into the crowd, blood still dripping from the stump, "In simple terms, the
price you pay for murder or inciting further riots is, I collect your head."
He threw the stump in a basket and ordered two of the reeves nearby to remove
the remaining heads from the dead murderers, And, so that none of you may
forget this positive injunction, the heads of these vile wretches, will be
placed on spikes at each of the gates to the city, that all coming and going
will know, this sort of violence is not tolerated here.

On the evening of Balasdes, a cloaked figure wearing a plain non-descript
leather cloak stood atop the Southside Courier and called out to the
residents to give a speech.

"Four men died today. Four men with families. With children. A reason to
live. Are these four men guilty of what the Reeves claim they have done?
Yes? No? Are you even sure? According to the Law, Freemen aren't deserving
of a fair trial. According to the Law, only the Highborn get that luxury.
The Reeves can say whatever they wish and make it truth, no one is going to
argue. We are being used. Used by Masters who care nothing for our well
being. Masters who strip our backs raw for simply having an opinion. Our
lives suffer for the betterment of theirs. The hardest thing a Noble has to
worry about is their public image. Freemen have to worry about what we will
feed our children.

The Eye of Justice serves only the Highborn. You will see no justice for the
Kalani Family, or the families of the those murdered by the Reeves today.
Deny them. Deny them your money. Deny them your labor. Deny them your
support. Make them remember what it means to work for your food.

The people the Highborn are abusing are the very same people they depend on.
We cook their meals, we clean their homes, we heal their sick, we guard them
while they sleep.

Do not frak with us, Highborn, for we are many."

After the speech was given, the figure turned to step back from the edge of
the roof and left without another word.

In the shadows of the evening of Augustus eighth, in the year three seventy
four, a small group of cloaked figures moved through the streets of Lithmore
traveling only after the sun had set on a bloody day in the city. The
figures wore various, nondescript leather cloaks, the likes of which found
often upon the backs of freeman. The group moved quietly as they went about
their mission and talk amongst them was nonexistent. Making their way around
the city, visiting humble households one at a time, each with a soft knock on
the front door. Each time the door opened there was sounds of grieving
misery from within, and each time there was a left behind crates of food and
an quietly spoken offers of condolences and assistance. Before they disperse
and go their separate ways quietly and peacefully, four freeman households
have had unexpected visitors this night.

Following morning mass on Augustus fifteenth, a small crowd had gathered in
the Church Square. It seemed Epion le Serre had intended to speak once more,
though about what none present were quite sure.

"People of Lithmore, I stand before you as Epion of Lithmorran Branch of the
Physicians, not as Vicannia le Serre. I am saddened greatly by the state of
our fair city, and it pains me to see the classes at each other's throats.
Such squabbling accomplishes nothing, and only creates more issues for our
city. Furthermore it opens a rift between us for which the taint of the
cursed mages can more easily worm their way into, separating us further."

"However despite the hate that permeates our city, I do not wish to see any
go without treatment, to suffer due to illness and injury. As such let it be
known now that in the absence of Prime Medicus, I am declaring that the
Madison and the Physicians within will remain neutral during the course of
this matter. Freemen and Noble alike will have their injuries and ailments
treated alike, and none shall be denied treatment based on class."

"This does not however mean the Physicians are closing their doors to
assisting the reeves, as we will still provide forensic work for the reeves.
No services the Physicians provided before this matter broke out will be
changing."

"Though let it be known that any who step foot within the madison in hopes of
inciting fighting will be swiftly removed and denied treatment. This goes
for all classes and ocupations. Any individual physicians who are found to
deny treatment based on class will be swiftly removed from the ranks of the
Physicians."

"I will not stand to see the Madison and it's Physicians brought into this
ridiculous fighting. That is all."

And with that Epion le Serre swiftly left the Square, heading for the
direction of the Madison, leaving in her wake a crowd of equally glad and
equally upset individuals.

During one of his frequent visits to the Queen's the Chief Magistrate of
Lithmore, Jozafat Steenson, grunted over a heated debate about the recent
freeman riots and subsequent executions. Annoyedly, he said aloud -in his
deep, powerful basstone voice- to anybody who cared to listen:

"Ya protest 'bout the four freemen hanged? Ya buy into tha' whole talk 'bout
the Reeves oppressin' th' people for the Highborn? Listen carefully." he
grunted and continued: "I's a freeman. I hanged 'em. An' ya wanna know why?
Because they rounded up two gentrymen an' a gentle woman. Kicked 'em an'
beat 'em men to death, an' she was dragged an' hung while everybody
laughed."

He scoffed annoyedly and went on: "We reeves didn' laugh. We had to fight to
restore order, then go an' explain th' families o' th' victims why we
couldn't save 'em. An' they wanted justice, justice tha' we delivered. Yet
ya have the balls to speak o' unfairness? Go say tha' to the woman tha'
twitched with a noose necklace for the amusement o' a crowd. Oh, tha's
right... She can't witch like ya do."

With that, he gulped down his coffee and left with a menacing lumber.
