As news of the impending Baronial Council have continued to sink in, meetings
have begun behind closed doors with much discussion, apparently, going on
amongst the nobility. Emboldened by the quiet response to previous
declarations, several more members of the nobility have declared that they
are also in favor of Roland. Saint Helriem's and the Throat in Tubor, Jedca
in Farin, Ikihel and Lillton in Vandago and Lundsend and Casterlay within
Lithmore count themselves among this number.

Quiet whispers in the taverns wonder if these declarations will spur
Celeste's supporters into further action.

On a cold Februarius morning, the man who is accused of killing the
ex-Justiciar is brought to the River Square. There, Zolin formally reads off
the crimes against the man of murder and conspiracy. Once this is done, the
executioner sits the rope around the man's neck and after that short drop and
a few twitches, the man is left to hang until dead. Zolin watches on grimly
as the work is done, then the reeves peacefully disperse what crowd may have
gathered to see the occurance.

Criers went out all across Lithmore calling everyone who was able to the
courtyard before the Merchants Guild. There, a large crowd gathered to hear
a speach given by the Grand Magnate in defense of his activities of late.
While there were many questions, most of them stemming around current issues
with interclass relations, the thread kept winding its way around to the
matter of Treason. Specifically, potential king Roland ab Beaufort. It was
on this matter that the Grand Magnate was more clear than he's been in recent
weeks, leaving little question as to his intent. Those in attendance report
variations on the same theme.

"Roland ab Beaufort is a traitor to the crown, to the kingdom, and to his own
people. For -being- a traitor, Roland ab Beaufort has been banned from
commerce by my order. I stand by that order, as does his lordship the
Justiciar. Beaufort shall remain banned from commerce until he is dead. If
such a thing sits not well with him, perhaps Treason may not have been his
most brilliant idea." He would go on to say, "The Merchants Guild fully
supports her Magisty queen Celeste ab Samael, long may she reign. Any within
the guild whom would harbor thoughts to the contrary are unworthy of being
called merchants, and ought seak an appointment with the Justiciar after
they've turned in their membership."

As the crowd began to disburse, those whom approved of the Grand Magnate's
statement could be heard chanting, "Long live the Queen!" Others were
significantly more silent, and potentially significantly more skeptical.

Stepping out of the Cityguard, flanked by several Reeves, the Proconsul of
the Duchy of Lithmore gathers a small crowd about before speaking.

"Grand Magnate Kiryn speaks on behalf of the Merchants Guild for the moment,
yet he does not speak on behalf of the Queen's Guard. While Baron Roland ab
Beaufort may be many things - a murderer, some cry. A future king, others
label him. An opportunist, certainly. A Harmon, perhaps. One thing he is
not, is a traitor."

"Her Highness has called the Baronial Council to ascertain the crown's
placement and has steadfastly refused to label him such, and thus, in the
eyes of the law, he is not. The Queen's Guard remains neutral in this
conflict as directed by Her Royal Highness. For the Grand Magnate to support
Baron ab Beaufort-Harmon one day, and label him a traitor the next, using the
weight of the Queen's Own Guard for his own political squabbles is a crime in
and of itself, as is using the Merchants Guild for his own political ideals
instead of seeing to the profit and health of those he was sworn to lead.
Let the next leader of the Merchants understand that the Queen's Guard is no
one's foil, and focus on expanding the coffers of its guild and the health of
its members. Long live the Queen."

With that, Lord Castruccio dul Acrisini steps back, letting the Reeves
disperse the crowds to carry the news of his speech across the kingdom.

Sponsored by House dul Acrisini and the Lord Proconsul of the Duchy of
Lithmore, and organised by Bardess Theodora dul Arcenant, nobility across the
kingdom convened in the Crown's Forests for a Grand Hunt. Hiring troubadours
to perform and bringing opposing views head to head, the Grand Hunt of 378
was seen as a traditional, morale-boosting event, and also as a great avenue
for the Baronial Council members to meet and discuss the Second Succession
Crisis. With no 'accidental' deaths during the event, it was widely regarded
as a success, leaving the city with a sense of unity despite the conflict.

The nobility in Lithmore are being encouraged to open their homes and provide
gainful employment to the able-bodied but destitute among the lowest classes,
hoping to in some part ease the resentful pains of poverty. Spurred on by a
consistent outpouring of positions for scullery maids, kitchen workers,
stable hands, and groundskeepers for the Lady Azadar of Avonna's estate, the
number of paid positions - while suitably low in prestige - are reportedly
geared toward drawing the poorest citizens out of the pattern of "sin for
survival" via theft or worse activities. By doing so, the Marquessa has gone
on record disputing the notion that the highborn do not care for the lot of
the underclasses, and appears to hope to prove it with action.

Word has filtered out that vendors are not to be withholding escential
supplies from the lower classes on the basis of their being of the lower
classes. Foodstuffs and the necessary ingredients for putting it together,
in particular, are not to be denied free men and women. Any vendor found to
be withholding necessary supplies from the lower classes is to be reported to
the Merchants Guild for disciplinary measures. Suspiciously, there was
little mention of class-oriented discounts...

On the heels of a public speech by a figure claiming to be the Tenebrae, and
a short debate amongst some of the gathered citizenry at the Crossroads,
Calanthe op Valencia borrowed the abandoned speaker's box to address those
who hadn't yet dispersed. She introduced herself, her role as Poet Knight,
and encouraged anyone to seek her out if they were unfamiliar with current
events, or uncertain on how to become more involved.

Some might remember her from her previous service in Troubadour leadership.
Others may have recognized her from a few recent, impromptu public
performances. Maybe a few others heard rumors of Charali men and horses and
... No, wasn't that some other Vavardi gentrywoman?

Whatever details may precede or follow, it is circulating that Poet Knight
Calanthe op Valencia is interested in hearing from the people of Lithmore and
learning how best to serve them.

As the baronial council vote continues to approach, much discussion has
continued to go back and forth between Lithmore and the different noble
domains and some domains have continued to announce who they intend to vote
for, though those who announce now seem much less vehement in their choices
than those who earlier announced.

Ird, Seahome and Savir have reportedly declared for Celeste, and, though he
is not yet declaring for her, after some back and forth discussions and at
least one significant package delivery, Nimrock has apparently taken back his
previous declaration for Roland, saying that some of his concerns have been
alleviated and he would perhaps consider Celeste.

Persela, Garod, Longcoast, Sartez, Sepha-Raya, Rosewood, Penmoor, Pertport,
Lothos and Palugia, on the other hand, have indicated that they favor Roland.

As the dust settles around the Merchant related drama of late, it appears
that Kiryn von Rhyll has successfully been removed from office. No comments
are released from the Merchants themselves, at least none that haven't
already been made. Without much wasted time, the current Magnate, Yeto le
Coblek, has been elevated to Grand Magnate. The move seemed anticipated, and
no known celebrations took place as most of the Merchants appear busy
planning for the upcoming Spring Awakening festivities.
