Supplemental quantities of preserved salmon, cheeses, dried grapes, and other
hardy (albeit foreign) provisions arrived through the West Gate with a
caravan of Vavardi traders on the morning of Maritus the 1st, rumored to have
been requisitioned -- and paid for -- by the Earl Marshall Arielle le Kekoa,
for distribution among the displaced citizens from the Tubori Quarter. Eager
hands made quick work of the preserves, which were passed out among families
until all appeared to have secured at least a fortnight's filling fare.

Runners dressed in Merchants' Guild tabards have been moving through the city
streets, loudly proclaiming the Spring Auction currently being held at the
Trade Hall Gallery. Lithmore's wealthy are especially encouraged to
participate, of course, and may do so at their leisure. The auction is
slated to go on for the next several days, with the winners to be announced
at the upcoming Spring Awakening Gala. Some details have already been
circulated through the rumor mill, but the rest can be found by visiting the
Trade Hall itself.

After two years since his arrival, the Baron Lance le Layne of Longcoast
departed from the capital after an ultimatum was delivered by his father, the
previous baron. None close to the noble know what the ultimatum contained,
but noted the haste in which le Layne left for the coast to board a ship.

A Modest Influence Event

With the announcement of Vicannia le Serre going for sensechal, Veilus Op
Tethno has set up a moment to speak to people at the Crossroads itself.
Waiting for the gathering of people that the troubadours has helped call word
to, Veilus would finally speak.

"Of all the people that I know in the Capital, I have to say that Miss Le
Serre is one of those whom, despite the hostility and bad words that people
put out for her, continues to seek the best for those around her. She
follows the Law of Caring, delivering wood to Southside, year after year.
She's been part of the Physicians, giving her time to try and help those who
are sick or hurt." Veilus shakes his head slightly. "I know plenty of people
hear bad things about her. Hearsay from actions in the past that from what
I've seen, she has steadily strived to work forward from."

Veilus chuckles with a raised hand. "Who here can not say they have their
discressions that they've had to Confess to the Order? Hmm? She is human,
just like everyone else and one of those people who continues to try, despite
all the challenges the Lord puts before her." He'd lower his hand. "I
respect her for it and I ask that you all do as well. She has my backing for
this bid, as well as that of the Troubadours."

With that, Veilus would step down from where he was speaking, meeting with a
few of the people to talk quietly before heading off. The troubadours there
would start up a small scene, playing some of the popular local songs before
dispersing too.

A Modest Influence Event

It was crisp that Maritus morning when Vicannia le Serre took to speaking at
the Church Square, with people recently leaving morning mass curious as to
what she would say.

"Citizens of Lithmore, I stand before you and must apologize. It is rude for
me to wish to be your Seneschal, yet make such a bid for power silently. I
normally would not partake in such tactics but I was out of Lithmore at the
time this whole campaign started, dealing with matters in Loryth."

"However I can stand here now, confidently, and tell you that yes, I do
intend to run as Seneschal. But I do not do it for the silver that comes
with it. For the almost three years I served as Epion, I made sure the
people working under me were paid better than I was. As Epion I only made 15
silver a month, whereas the fully fledged physician makes 40 a month. Greed
as never been a driving force for me when taking up positions of authority,
and greed will not lead my hand as Seneschal. Noone is able to buy my
influence, and as Seneschal any decisions made would be my own, not the
decisions of some mysterious benefactor, or of those who would call
themselves friends."

"I hope that should you take the chance on me, that you will do so knowing my
interests lie in the betterment of Lithmore, in the future of lithmore. Not
in the interests of it's individuals, but in the interest of all citizens of
Lithmore."

And with that she headed off from the square, leaving a crowd of equally
interested and confused people.

Freeman throughout the city have been huddled against the cold behind closed
doors, around tavern tables and within Southside homes in front of roaring
fireplaces, discussing the pulse of politics within the city. It seems there
is a modest, but growing support amongst the baseborn for the former Epion of
honored Physician's Guild. "proof is in de puddin." say some, "consistent
she is, makes good on her promises, I say give 'er a shot" comes the opinion
of others.

Word is spreading, that if a choice is to be made, perhaps the one who
actually openly supports the majority of the population within the city,
should be the one who acts as their voice. Those who support her now, are
openly spreading the name 'le Serre' as the next logical Seneschal of
Lithmore.

In the mid-afternoon of Solisda, Martius 24th there was a bit of commotion in
the crossroads. A large contingent of soldiers march in and position
themselves around the outside, wearing surcoats of black and white, and the
colours of house dul Betencourt. In addition, two standard bearers plonked
their flags down right in the middle of the crossroads and set up an elevated
podium. In comes Count Sauvaige dul Betencourt, Lord Knight.

He wastes no time, exchanges a few salutes with his men and hops aboard the
podium to address the curious crowd. A booming voice laden with a heavy
Vavardi accent. "Citizens of Lithmore! Your city IS sick. Your city IS
wounded, bleeding from every orafice. Witchesm, corruption, embezzlement and
betrayals. This GREAT city needs mending. Stone by stone, soul by soul. It
will be a long journey I can assure you, and it will not be without pain. We
all must help. Rich or poor, powerful or powerless. We have witnessed the
corruption of the Reeves, the entire upper Escalon declared criminals to the
kingdom, and the church. How did this go unnoticed for so long? I don't
know. And more, the Tubori Quarter falling into the very Urth due to lack of
infrastructure? I will help correct both these failings."

He takes a breath, and adjusts his velvet topcoat. "I have 'erd say that I
am without action, that I am frivolous and immodest." He waves a finger in
the air, "No, no! I have been a soldier and a knight for most of my life, I
was the second son of my household and as such was not slated to receive the
primary title of our dynasty. I lead my fathers armies in his wars and
conflicts, and was given to the Knighthood to serve in addition. I have seen
pain and misery much in my life, as have many of you. My noble bearings and
title do not protect me from suffering. I have experienced loss, and
bloodshed. My own county erupted in civil war as my brother attempted to
take the title from my father. Long story short, big bloody war, brother
dead, family dead. The title passes to me. I know what it is like to fight
and bleed for duty, and what you love."

His men-at-arms erupt into a short lived cheer, "Hear hear!" They quiet down,
and the noble continues his ramblings. "I came here to Lithmore after I
rebuilt and stabilised my domain. It was during the time the city was
plagued with mages most foul. I came to assist the effort of the Knights,
and brought a large contingent of men with me. I like to think I helped, at
least a little bit. In closing, I am the right man for the job. I have the
experience and fortitude to hold the reins of such a GREAT city, and direct
it to prosperity such as I did with my own lands.

"I will not speak ill of my opponent, as I have met her previously. She
seemed alright to me, in actual fact. I can assume most of those rumours to
be bollocks." Some of the crowd gasp, and one Lithmorran gentry woman faint
as he utters that word. He continues nonetheless. "The rumour mill is not
kind, and I urge you all to support who you will by your own judgements-- not
judgements clouded by misinformation, lies and as they say in Vavard... Call
a whore a whore, which means... Treat people as who they show they are."
Another small round of faintings. Ghastly.

"I will fix this city, and make Lithmore great again. To do this, I need
your help." His final words, as he plucks his hat from atop his head and
swishes it across his chest in salute of the brimming crowd. "Soldiers, pass
out the bread and ale." At this, his men start to mingle with the crowd
passing out loaves of bread and bottles of ale. Along with small pamphlets,
written with 'SUPPORT COUNT DUL BETENCOURT FOR A BETTER FUTURE' they seem to
have enough for about two thirds of the crowd before they start running
out.

Damaging talk about Vicannia le Serre has recently resurfaced among
Lithmore's elite. Much of the discussion has been focused on the former
courtier's notorious removal from the Royal Court after being caught
attempting to blackmail a high-ranking representative of the Queen. Others
murmur about her attempts to manipulate the young Baron of Vintrius in an
effort to become a Baroness, as well as her outed campaign to destroy the
livelihood of Ariel le Orban's cousin, the former Marquessa of Jaridan.

In weighing le Serre's recent good deeds against her former actions, there
are those who agree that she likely isn't sorry for her ill behavior of the
past -- merely sorry that she was caught. Certain members of the nobility
resent Serre's repeated and tasteless attempts to grab at power beyond her
social station, while others deplore her continued efforts to flaunt her
wealth under the guise of "charity."

At the end of the day, there are murmured agreements that a woman of such
ill-repute cannot, and should not, be trusted in such a position of power. A
zebra cannot change its stripes, after all, nor can a rotten apple reverse
its decay.

Whether all the talk results in much action, however, remains to be seen.
