After some period of deliberation, the High Synod has chosen Mother
Carmen Medina to succeed the former Matriarch Olivia Calix.
Medina is seen as an unusual choice, as her experience was largely garnered
in the far South and her arrival in Lithmore was recent. Additionally, her
past as a soldier on the Daravi front has raised some eyebrows. However,
she has been active in the city since her arrival, and those who know her
suggest her generally even temperament may benefit someone stepping into a
notoriously difficult position.
Along with the news, the new Matriarch released a brief statement: "I will
do my best to serve the Lord and my people in whatever role I am called to.
May He guide me with his wisdom to make the right choices for Lithmore."

On Octobris 12, 360, Terath dul Phera was cleansed of the sin of magery.
Terath was witnessed attempting to enthrall the Earl Marshall. When
confronted, he twisted the element of water to his will in an attempt to
escape.
Through the efforts of His Majesty Gavin ab Harkness, Lord Earl Marshall
Argider de Roldan, and Father Iain Roseren, the witch was subdued and
brought to Ahalin Tower. Grand Inquisitor Loreth ab Radford oversaw his
questioning and cleansing by fire at River Square.
Rumors mention Terath was also seen carrying a Book of Dav's Declarations,
meaning he may have intended to join the Order and cause havoc from within.

Reports throughout the town came to the Office of the Holy Inquisition
about a mage that would bend the very air around him in order to become
invisible. The disembodied voice would harrass devout citizens and cause
them mysterious harm via carefully directed gusts of wind. Through a joint
investigation by the Holy Order and the Lithmorran Reeves, Rick Lavos was
brought in as the primary suspect.

During a Review of Faith conducted by Grand Inquisitor Loreth ab Radford,
Lavos admitted to being a wind mage, and the tutor of fire mage Saama who
is also in captivity. Items were also confiscated from Lavos which are
known to be used in the summoning of demons.

A second mage, in the form of a flowing shadow, interrupted the questioning
in Ahalin Tower, calling from the darkness that an escape attempt would be
launched during Lavos' cleansing. The exact words spoken by the shadow
have not been released by the Holy Order, but Lavos' own actions prevented
the trap from ever being sprung. During transfer from his cell to River
Square, Rick Lavos managed to break free of his restraints. Several tower
guards, Squires, and full Knights (including the Earl Marshall himself)
fought the witch in the holding cells, eventually managing to subdue him
once more.

Not wishing to risk further danger of escape in the hands of associate
mages which may have already joined the crowd at River Square, the Guards
and Knights present were called upon to witness the Grand Inquisitor's
declaration of Lavos' guilt, and the benediction for the Lord to accept the
mage's soul upon its imminent restoration and release. Lavos was taken to
the pyre and burned immediately, the above details then explained by the
Grand Inquisitor to the citizens gathered to witness the event.

Some note that the date of Lavos' near escape, one day before Magebane in
the year 360, may cause the holiday's prayers to grow even more fervent.

Circadi, Novembris (Month 11), 22, In the Year of Our Lord 360: Turmoil
at the Palace. In the midst of a Capitol in flux after the long procession
of burnings, attacks, and civil strife, news comes from the Throne of in
fighting within the Samael clan.

In the early hours of the morning, a tribunal of the Samael clan met, led
by the older sister of the late King, Lady Katerina ab Samael. Reports are
that several prominent members of the family, desiring a monarch of their
own blood rather than a married relative to sit upon the Throne, forced the
resignation of the late King's wife, Cellan ab Samael, from the position in
favour of a place at her new husband's side in Awan Ride.

Despite the considerable amount of support that Lady Cellan had from the
nobility and the kingdom alike, and reports of a bitter, tumultuous
division at the meeting itself, the Samael family had reached their own
decision: that Lady Katerina take her late brother's place until his true
heir, Caitrin ab Samael, should reach her majority.

Following the sudden absence of Maxwell Wattkil the Reeves were left
without a leader for near a month. Silence was produced from their ranks,
no idea of who would ascend to the position of Justiciar. Finally upon the
morning of Novembris 22 it was announced that the former Reeve Katarina ab
Brayston would be stepping up to fill the seat. She spoke briefly to a
small group, stating she desired to welcome structure back to the Reeves
and tending to matters left behind by people who came before her.
Curiosity ensued as is the natural way of things in a city the size of the
Capitol.

_________________________________________________________________________
News of the execution of the murderess Lei Varick has percolated throughout
Lithmore.

Varick, a former Justiciar and Proconsul of the Reeves, began her murder
spree with Artin von Rozzaria, a fellow Reeve. According to multiple
witnesses, she attacked him at the Crossroads after he made certain
salacious statements involving her private life. Despite the attempts of
onlookers to intervene, she slaughtered Rozzaria and fled.

A short time later, retired Magistrate Edward Darson was her next victim,
found curled in a back alley behind Reeve headquarters with silver coins on
his eyes and a bottle of sherry in his arms.

At this point, the Reeves went onto high alert, but it was not enough to
save Nayiv de Reymes, former and currently acting Justiciar during the
suspension of Maxwell Wattkil; her body was discovered within the Reeves'
headquarters itself.

Shortly after Reymes' murder, Magistrate Noah Reed and the Charali Safir
Mara'aye captured Varick and brought her in. It is said Varick's wounds
were so severe questioning was delayed by the need for her recovery;
whatever the truth, Varick was hanged by the neck until dead by Magistrate
Reed approximately a week after her arrest.

Directly after the execution, a wake for the departed was held in the Bear
and the Boar, although attendees claimed a dismal air largely hung around
the proceedings: even the execution of the murderer could not restore the
equanimity of the Reeves who had lost so many comrades. It remains to be
seen how they will recover from this scandal and loss within their ranks.

_________________________________________________________________________
In the early morning hours of Votumas the 14th of Januarius, the alarm
was sounded at the royal Palace of Lithmore.

In the initial confusion, it was difficult to ascertain what misadventures
had led to the death of four guards and the capture of two others, found
tied up, badly bruised and shaken. However, as the story of the night was
pieced together, the truth become horrifyingly apparent.

Caitrin ab Samael, Queen or Princess depending on one's perspective, had
been forcibly abducted from her tower bedroom in the Palace itself.

According to the surviving guards, a group of armed men and women were seen
outside the Palace in the dead of night. One of the survivors came upon
them scaling a rope ladder to the girl's bedroom, but was apprehended and
choked into unconsciousness before he could cry out. Before he too was
defeated, the second surviving guard witnessed them descending with the
little girl, who seemingly went willingly. His last cries before falling
unconscious summoned help - but all those who came to his aid were later
found dead beneath the tower, in a chaos of hoofprints and torn ground.

Guards who arrived too late to prevent the group's departure report
witnessing the escape of a party on horseback: two titanic men flanking a
slender woman, the little heir held within her arms. The other fighters, a
motley crew in various equipment and weaponry, melted away into the palace
grounds and escaped as soon as the riders had fled.

Queen Regent Katerina ab Samael has responded to the abduction with
declarations of a state of alarm throughout the city, ordered a double
guard presence to attempt to stop her captors from getting away from
Lithmore with her beloved niece. She has declared the capture an act of
treason, noting that any announcements that may come from the little Queen
must be considered as under duress and against her own wishes and those of
the late and beloved King Tobin, and further announced a reward for
information leading to the return of Caitrin or the capture of the traitors
who abducted her.

Quietly, some suggest that Katerina is herself the traitor and the
abductors may have more right to Caitrin. Katerina, for herself, seems to
be aware of her tenuous situation, increasing the guard in the palace to
accompany a tense atmosphere. Those from Cellan's regime are treated with
a mix of suspicion and appeasement, though no action has been taken to
remove or replace them. Some report that Katerina has quietly declared
that, reluctantly, she herself would have to be considered Caitrin's heir,
as Tobin has no other blood relative beside her.
