Re: Knights vs Mages - Game Design

I'm typing this on my phone, so please excuse me if my response isn't as cogent or eloquent as your posts, Klapman. I think you raise interesting and valid points, but you're missing information. Both of your examples were directly as a result of my and a couple of others' roleplay, so let me see if...

Re: Knights vs Mages - Game Design

All of the things that have been nerfed were broken and bad for the game, with the possible exception of cloaks, since there you just rewarded wealthy mages and hurt those who can't purchase silver. I personally wouldn't argue against any of those derogations. You've already removed any use of matta...

Re: Knights vs Order - Game Design

How is that different than, was using the travel commands wasn't 100% on my A game, got trapped and died. Both require trust that other people want to RP and don't want every encounter to lead to death but instead RP. That particular encounter was intended to be about death for IC personal reasons,...

Re: Knights vs Order - Game Design

The point that I'm fumbling making is that if you're attempting to make Known Mage = Death, these changes don't do much. Instead you're making Mage In Public = Death, which I don't think is the same. And, more importantly, these changes will have a disparate impact, favoring OOC knowledge and OOC fr...

Re: Knights vs Order - Game Design

It's not really fair to judge mages based on me. Sure, with 400k XP in my character and IC friends as powerful, I could kill the Order one by one. That's precisely my point, these changes force people to use overwhelming force. Unless the combat system is changed completely, as long as I have more f...

Re: Knights vs Order - Game Design

I agree and understand that Knights must be able to apprehend mages or the theme of the game breaks down. The problem I personally have when Knights are too strong is that it stifles risk-taking. Mages only get caught when they take risks, when they use magic. Risks by mages drive RP for everyone. T...

Re: [Poll] 1st GLs removing 2nd GLs

I think that 2nd GLs should not be fully autonomous, and the only real club that 1st GLs have is threat of demotion.

Re: The unwritten rules of the Spar

Ariel is correct. While there are lots of other factors that can unbalance a spar, between two grandmasters with even stats and skills going twice basically means you win.

Being a Scary Mage

I had to miss the latest OOC chat due to real life rearing its ugly head. I was looking over the log and saw Vaxin's name brought up in reference to the 'nerfing' of mages. I agree with Kinaed and staff on this one, mages are plenty dangerous enough at the moment. This sentiment that all the interes...

Re: Portals, Exits, and Traps - Policy Concerns

As the player who owned the house in question, I'd like to clear something up. This was built with an extensive 1 on 1 conversation with staff about what was and what wasn't allowed. The title 'policy concerns' seems to be a little inflammatory. I admit that I pushed the limits of the Phome system a...
