Re: Latency clarification

Might be worth making another thread on suggestions on how to enforce mages taking a more 'active' role then - or ways for the Order to investigate/hunt down mages if said mages don't do much and take barely any risks at all (thus making their consequences almost zero).

Re: Latency clarification

Honestly, I feel it's a little too 'safe' to roll up a mage, gather 50% of nearly free(!) reclevel, and then sit on it as is. Well, what I mean is that let's say latents do have this coded 'thing' that gets worse with time and codedly WILL out them as latents/Tainted. Mages don't have anything like...

Re: Latency clarification

What I mean is that basically there are two routes I see to resolving the odd nature of latency IC right now: 1. Leave latency as-is, and add a scaling buy-in to magery. This suggests intentfulness or commitment in the latent/mage population to play those desirable roles to their fullest rather tha...

Re: Latency clarification

I agree, but without any 'outward' effects occurring codedly, a latent character basically needs to give OOC consent to be discovered by choosing to roleplay the effects to whatever degree of subtlety they want. I have kind of the opposite preference here, where I think it'd be cooler (and more ful...

Re: Latency clarification

Fair, but at that point, why even tax characters RPXP to excuse themselves from the latent lottery if it doesn't really affect anything? It's basically just fee to ensure your character can go Order if desired, since AFAIK latents can't. Now, this is a part that I could agree on - giving people a c...

What is being cited in this thread is the disconnect between that helpfile and the reality of how the game works: Latent mages can ignore their status indefinitely with no consequence.
Yes, hence why I suggested that part should be changed since it is not entirely true.

Re: Latency clarification

Also, there is actually a detailed help file for latency that suggests exactly what entails 'strange happenings' when you are a latent. "help threshold of flesh" "Until it is crossed, the magic within a person is dormant and sleeping - for all intents and purposes, there is no difference between a l...

Re: Latency clarification

There are no further instructions than that for latents, no, you understanding here is incorrect. On mage side there is no latent-radar either, so if latents don't play the part, they won't be found (random awakenings are against policy afaik). Actually, there are because latent players have said b...

Re: Latency clarification

So this is very clear that if you do not find a mage to awaken you, your character will not be a long lived one. So to me this points further that the matter is in dire need of OOCly clarification. I am not looking here for IC suggesions on "how to find a mage" etc, strictly to flush out the OOC pa...

Re: Latency clarification

I think first of all, the point of latency isn't supposed to be a quest to find a mage to be awakened. In my eyes, it's just a different form of roleplay for your character. Maybe your character will find out, maybe they won't... but at the core the point isn't supposed to be 'find out you are a lat...
