Re: Routes to Gentryhood

So, full disclosure: I'm playing a freeman GL right now who has an IC opportunity that hinges on him gaining gentry status in his own right, so I have a stake in how this shakes out, but I do think that if you're a freeman who manages to hold a GL position for a number of years, you should have the ...

Re: Alternative approach to noble inactivity

I'm honestly surprised that this isn't the way it already works, so +1 to the suggestion!

Re: [Poll] Give Us Grit

So, first up, I'm going to say that I'm generally not a fan of grittiness myself. I definitely think that grittiness is definitely over-represented in terms of the settings available in RP MUDs. That being said, as always, I think it's always best to try and go direct to the 'why' of the problem her...

Re: Separating tend/harvest from Herbalism

I made a case for allowing forage to also work for herbalism when gardening some time ago, but it was turned down, unfortunately!

Re: Nixing the banking system

Oh, maybe I should have been clearer! The fee isn't a flat amount, but more of a percentage - so if it was something like 15%, a Freeman depositing their 1 gold earnings for some task only has to pay 15 silver, while a Gentry person might be incentivized to stash that 50 gold they just got a hold of...

Re: Nixing the banking system

I think a good compromise might be to have the banking system have fees associated with it - I've seen other fantasy games where when you deposit to a bank, the bank takes a small cut of whatever you put in. The idea of banking being more or less free to the customer, with the bank supporting itself...

Reject support from people you're subverting

Pretty much what it says in the title, really! Someone who supported my character recently ended up attracting enough ire and subversions (including from my character) that it tanked his approval rating from Entrenched all the way back down to Neutral, since being supported by people who are widely ...

Rent from the real estate office

Sometimes, these enormous estates show up on the real estate office's market - once owned by players who spent months or even years adding onto them, maybe even multiple wealth purchases - and even the most wealthy players couldn't buy them outright, even at a substantial discount. It might be nice ...

Re: How to Create a Character

Also agree! Galen started out as pretty solidly as 'support' or 'background' character - a tiny, effete innkeeper's son who existed primarily to chirp about on the fringes of tavern scenes - and those were the days I had the most fun with him. Rather than make your character terribly deep and compli...
