It seems as though it's always something else, and Lithmore is left in
what some could call a miserable state. And they are calling it that and
several worse things. More and more people have been griping about the
state of affairs in Lithmore and suggesting that someone should do
something about it.

In the wake of the removal of Baron Ariel le Orban from the Regency, the
Lithmorran Court has been in a scramble to keep the government together
after finding its self suddenly leaderless. The Baronial Council, despite
its announcement of the forced retirement of Lord le Orban, had remained
curiously quiet on the subject of a new Regent to take the reigns of
governance until Her Royal Majesty, Queen Caitrin ab Samael reaches her
majority. After a heated debate, the following statement was issued:

"After careful consideration, the Baronial Council has determined that Lord
Tomas ab Jinosa was not involved in the moral turpitude and sins that have
checkered Lord le Orban's past. Lord ab Jinosa, a former Knight who served
on the Daravi Front has proven himself a stalwart defender of Lithmore, the
Holy Order and the people. The office of the Regency must move forward
morally and justly and the Council believes Lord ab Jinosa is the man to do
so. He will be invested with the powers of the Regency with all do haste
and consideration."

The statement, expected by many in the Court is not without it's questions.
Will Regent ab Jinosa be able to differentiate himself from Lord le Orban
enough? How will Lord ab Jinosa perform as Regent? Some reports of his
abilities have been favorable, but other parties question the shortness of
time for which he has been in a position of power. Only time will tell.

News is spreading throughout the city about a grisly murder scene
observed at the eastern dock. The victim is one Gianina dul Fioresse, a
visiting Vavardi gentrywoman who was the owner and chief designer of
Fioresse Goldsmithing, an extremely fashionable jewelry business in Vavard
City.

Rumors suggest Mistress dul Fioresse may be connected to the disgrace of
the former Lord Regent, Ariel le Orban, and speculative murmurs are turning
his way in the light of her death.

On Octobris 28th, 364, Archbishop Aurther Auguste held an early morning
cleansing. Those who arrived were surprised to see that within the
Archbishop's arms were cradled two infants, no more than a year old.
Confusion and intrigue soon had the crowd silent, awaiting to hear what
role these infants held in the pyring. To their surprise the Archbishop
went on to claim that the infants he held were not only twins, but mages.
He explained that he had been called in by the local clergy in Loryth
regarding claims of odd occurrences in a family home. Believing it to be
the work of a mage, the archbishop made his way to Loryth where he stayed
two weeks with the family. He explained that through careful inquisitorial
investigation he was able to determine that it was not the work of some
mage targeting the family, but instead originating from the twins
themselves.

To say the crowd was shocked would be an understatement, but no one
intervened beyond a few hateful words that went unheeded by the Archbishop,
who instead set to work preparing the twins for their pyring, even as the
parents stood at the front of the crowd, fear for their childen's fate
evident in their body language.

What happened next is still very unclear. Witnesses stated that as the
twins were consumed by fire, flames flared up from the pyre, lashing across
the Archbishop's entire face. As the Archbishop fell to the ground in
pain, and acolytes rushed to assist the fallen man, the crowd stayed silent
for sometime, shocked by what they had just witnessed. It wasn't long
before the knights on the scene ushered the crowd out of river square,
while the Archbishop was rushed to the madison for immediate treatment.

A statement was released by the physicians several days later, stating that
the archbishop had sustained 3rd degree burns to the majority of his face
and sparse sections of his scalp and that his odds of surviving the burns
were currently high.

(This relates to A Ferrous Fiasco Header Plot)

Early on Octobris 8th, Casimir Aldair, accompanied by a contingent of
knights and Maxwell le Wattkil, drove a caravan of iron goods north from
Avonna, pretending to be merchants and a plum target. As intended, the
caravan was set upon - wind and fire attacks came from either side of the
road and a huge abomination of iron spiked with weaponry came out swinging.
It was a near battle, but the group prevailed on behalf of Lithmore.
Casimir himself and some of the others were said to be badly hurt, while
one mage was killed in the heat of battle and another carted off to Ahalin
for later questioning. As for the iron golem, it is said that le Wattkil
has laid claim to its head, ripped off with the end of a battle barely
pulled through.

Lithmore has responded with celebration and relief - prices of iron and
other goods begin to drop already in speculation that the trade can
resume.

With recent worries about the state of Lithmore, concerned citizens have
been wondering what, if anything will be done about the crime and
corruption in home duchy. Rumors of investigations into a number of
individuals, both of high and lower rank began to filter amongst the
populace until a well orchestrated series of arrests were conducted by the
Reeves under authorization by the Regent, bringing in a number of
individuals, from freemen to gentry and even two members of the nobility.

Over the course of several days trials were held for those who by rights
had earned their trials during which a large network of illegal slave
trading was revealed. The individuals under arrest were those involved,
from frequent buyers to those involved in the trafficing. Though legal in
other parts of the Kingdom, Slavery remains illegal in Lithmore and Vavard
and the slavery ring was operating out of Lithmore.

Some say that these trials were connected to earlier efforts to handle a
slavery ring in the sewers and docks of Lithmore as well as in Savir. In
the end the majority of the punishments were fines and floggings, however
notably of the two nobles who were arrested, one had his title stripped and
given to his heir and the other has been removed from the Court, if allowed
to keep his title. Both had been intimately involved with the purchase of
the slaves, the former being quote 'responsible for a sizeable portion of
the slave trade in Lithmore.'

Rumors that Gerolf von Stewart is dead appear to have taken hold at the
highest echelons of the Church. After failing a summons to the High Synod
to explain his absence, the High Synod apparently shrugged its shoulders
and raised His Holy Honor, Auberon mal Halliwell, to the role as a matter
of course.

Word has come from the Office of the Earl Marshall that a new Grand
Master has been appointed. The man, Captain Zumini de Mordar comes
directly from the front lines and is said to be rather excited to take the
post.

He has an illustrious background having fought at several of the major
battles including Sands Fort. His previous appointment was that of Captain
in Her Majesty's Light Cavalry.

He is known for his firm discipline, his level head, and his keen tactical
mind. His troops generally enjoyed working under him, though rumors due
suggest that he can seem cool and standoffish.

Word is that he is near Irisum and is riding hard to reach his new post.

The spokesman of the High Synod came forward on the evening of the 24th
of Novembris with a public announcement: "His Holiness, the Patriarch and
Cardinal of Lithmore has put forward a new name for the recently empty role
of Grand Inquisitor. His submission has been accepted, and we are pleased
to confirm Lord Inquisitor Sameer de Ashimid as the newly appointed Grand
Inquisitor of the realm. His background in Margyarna and Montford City
have proven him to be an insightful investigator and a champion for proper
Inquisitorial methods, both proven in earnest since his arrival in
Lithmore."
